"COOKIE"

“Without any intention of my own" Faring Purth told @stlpublicradio, "at times I’ve been pegged as a 'controversial' artist." After Purth's 100-foot long 2014 mural on Cherokee St met a variety of resistance she turned to The Grove neighborhood of St. Louis and created "Cookie" on the side of Manchester Ave restaurant, Sanctuaria. During its creation this work was defaced with slurs which Purth quickly painted over and accepted with equanimity. Growing up traveling the nation, and the world, and the product of what she described to Urban Nation Museum for Contemporary Art as formal education mingled with raw experience, they go on to hold Purth up as an example of " how hardship, pushed forward through time, can yield a defiant softness, chosen over safer callouses."  @faringpurth  @thegrovestl  @urbannationberlin

It’s been far too long, I know. Much has happened in the last few months. Updates to come, I promise. For now, I just wanted to let you know the last of the available small scale works have just been uploaded to the gallery. I will be focusing on larger spirit animals & seraphims in the months to come. Wandering the East Coast, returning to my roots, and manifesting a new studio somewhere along the way. Send this sleepy eyed child prolific thoughts. The tides are turning.
