While we're touching down in Americana territory, Wooden Wand have released an excellent new record that's taken them in a stripped-down acoustic direction. Psychedelic effects still hang off of the steel-stringed guitar riffs, and fuzz noise meltdowns erupt through to the surface, but the musical focus is on from-the-heart blues and country.

Wooden Wand - When The Trail Goes Cold: The name might not ring a bell, but this is the pseudonym of a guy called James Jackson Toth. In the past he's released under Young God Records, whose show runner and Swans singer Michael Gira speaks very highly of the man. For this album, 'Farmer's Corner', he traveled around the US looking for different vibes and people to collaborate with, among which the very awesome guitarist William Tyler. This track is easily the most melodious, but do promise to check out 'Dambuilding' and 'Sinking Feelings' as well.
