ugh they love each other so much :’) and it’s so bittersweet by then because you know the shows about to end but john and aeryn are at their most adorable and their relationship is so solid and loving

this post is one of the first things i ever made after joining tumblr so it’s a bit yuk compared to my more recent gifsets, but it seems to be quite similar to what you’re asking about!

do you think john ever got to see his family in earth again after bad timing? his last conversation with his dad always has me bawling.

i think i lean towards no, at least not to stay. john crichton has always been an analogue for dorothy gale - he’s super excited to go into space/over the rainbow for all of about five minutes but then he accidentally kills the villain’s sibling and immediately wants to go home.
but while dorothy’s journey is about finding that the way home was always inside of her, the show takes john to the realization that he can never go back to the home he once knew, but he can build a new home and a new family on moya with aeryn et al. so to me it’s pretty essential for his arc that he doesn’t end up back on earth.
i also think it’s needed for balance in the john/aeryn relationship. others have made the criticism that it’s contrary to aeryn’s character for her to end up in such a nuclear family when that’s really not even a concept in the culture she grew up in. but i think it works when she consents to that for john, and on the other hand john consents to giving up everything and everyone he ever knew and loved before meeting her.
it’s a nice thought that he could have gone back to visit though! and that jack and olivia could meet their grandson/nephew and any other baby sun-crichtons that come along 😊
do you think farscape will ever come back? there's been talk about a movie since 2014 and this march was the 15th anniversary of the last episode so there were a lot of articles talking about how the show should come back and etc. the creators say they'd like to get a movie going if they can get the cast + crew together but everyone has different projects going on. at this point i don't know if they're just saying that to keep the hope alive or if it's actually happening at some point.
gosh i don’t know anon! i know they’ve been talking about a movie for a while - and that there’s a draft of a script finished (i heard this straight from gigi edgley herself!) i think that a lot of the cast could make themselves available, i suspect that it’s just the ~profitability~ aspect that’s holding it up.
but as excited as i would be for the movie i don’t think we necessarily need it. the show ended on a high note and we have a pretty good number of high quality episodes to keep us busy with rewatches for as long as we want to stretch it out, and maybe it’s better for farscape to stay in the ether where we can never be disappointed in it?

is fashion4ducks watching the eps in the right order?!? bc when i mainlined S1 on Netflix, they were in aired order rather than intended order and I think that made things way harder to grasp in the early eps.

mental as anything.... or as i like to call it, “in which it is revealed that d’argo was abusive to his wife and yet we are somehow expected to feel sorry for him anyway”. a lot of people interpret those scenes differently to me and i think that’s totally valid but it’s a pretty dull episode either way
the first 90 seconds, with john/aeryn curled up in pilot’s den, is of course acceptable to me though ;)
