Valuing the Long Shot Close-ups are far more popular than long shots (aka far shots). There are plenty of good reasons why this is true. And yet a well-conceived long shot can make a big contribution to a movie. The example here is from “Bosnia, where Europe ends,” by Italian mobile journalist Nico Piro. The mini-doc captures the horrific conditions in a migrant camp. While the movie does contain many powerful close-ups, Piro uses this long shot to convey the isolation and loneliness that the migrants have to face. “Bosnia, where Europe ends” is the current Mobile Movie of the Week.
