All the socialites ladies that Sargent painted. He chose the dresses and paid close attention to the clothes’ details; often changing colors or added small details to make the pictures better.

Even when he painted in outdoor setting, with ordinary people as his sitters, Sargent still painted the clothes exquisitely. I didn’t realize before how much he liked fashion and how much attention he paid to the clothes’ details.

These gentlemen were definitely serving. Sargent chose the clothes. Especially for gent no.2, he chose that long coat first then gave it to the sitter. I think he actually just want to paint the coat. Gent no.3 was an Ob-Gyn in Paris and belonged to the circle of avant-garde artist.

I love, love her and her dress. Was always curious why she wasn’t painted in full length to show her dress. They said she was actually pregnant, and Sargent fudged around a bit possibly to not show her as pregnant (apparently those days you shouldn’t show people if you’re pregnant 🙃🙃)

Sargent also did paintings based on costumes dresses that he found or borrowed. Dude loved clothes details and fashion.

Madame X. Gorgeous gorgeous painting.

The clothes and the paintings. I love the 1st pic, it’s an opera cloak!! Didn’t know such thing existed, and it’s glorious.
