That should have been my #goodmorningpost, but I couldn’t find the right words and the right moment. I’m sure those who’s into fashion are overwhelmed with posts addressed to the @manfredthierrymugler passing away. I thought there’s nothing new I could add. But I know there’re people who think I shouldn’t skip the subject. So here I am. I don’t want to post 10 slides with his creations because I won’t be able to choose something and not the other. #ThierryMugler catwalk shows changed the direction of haute couture and fashion in general. His vision made 80s and the beginning of 90s. Without him there wouldn’t be the major fashion names we so accustomed to mention with every occasion, and pop culture would definitely look different. So there’re books about him, museum expositions… he was a legend and his own monument for the last 30 years at least. It’s an epoch passed away, not just a man. His death followed the death of @andreltalley that made my last week felt like funeral march with no end. One wave of losses after another. But, to be completely honest, we should admit, that fashion industry moved on both of them a long time ago. It smashed those, who inspired it and formed it. I didn’t write my tribute to Talley, I do it now. I saw him once and had a pleasure to listen his thoughts for couple of hours. It was a lesson and it was a pleasure to hear a voice of reason, not just talks round and about the glamour. It was harsh, very precise personal vision, that felt sometimes solid like a rock. The rock that as history shows was a shelter for many. I think that’s who he was for the designers he supported, discovered and absolutely sincerely appreciated no matter how young they were at the moment, how inexperienced, troubled or how much money stood behind the brands. He looked for the spark in their creations. For the genius. He knew why he did his work and what was exactly the work. And I don’t mean the job he was paid for but his life. I wish I had such clear purpose. Of course we will miss them both. We had already missed them even before they left us.
