I can't responsibly reblog the post I saw about it, but what is true and important to circulate is that the new Call of Duty revolves around a theoretical US/South Korean war on North Korea. A lot of people think this is weird because, unlike a WWII or Iraq story, this is an ongoing conflict
Developer Infinity Ward said the game will be "grounded in the military authenticity" the series is known for.
South Koreans have been largely either concerned or excited to see SK representation in a big franchise like Modern Warfare. However, the game's concept has a lot of North Korean citizens very uncomfortable that it's foretelling a future US/South Korean war on North Korea. On June 1st, there was a fatal explosion at a North Korean aerospace factory, starting as a fire in a washroom, which has so far been ruled the result of executive safety oversight. Online NK citizens, who were already worried that Call of Duty game is a veiled national threat, are starting to circulate conspiracy theories about the Hanwha Aerospace tragedy being a planted attack from the USA
My takeaways: This is really bad timing, especially as yet another piece of media glamorizing a North Korean war. I wonder to what degree stuff like this is meant to purposely make North Koreans paranoid - worse yet for everyone, five people died at work in a freak accident, and a lot of people are unsure if it's part of a grander conspiracy
