in inq, it’s established that dorian and alexius were working on the theory of time magic, and i’m sure they weren’t the only ones. but hearing of its successful use, i like to think it got a lot more research and traction, and eventually incorporated into mourn watch studies (definitely the theory if not the practice) bc what goes hand in hand with death? time.
the fact that many of your companions (bellara, emmrich, neve i think too iirc) have slowdown abilities, also supports this idea that messing around with time is more common in the decade post inquisition, and i think it’s part of her repertoire too.
however, because of her general restlessness, she has an easier time with speeding things up. in general, it takes a certain level of skill to do time fuckery on people, and she’s prone to shortcuts so she mostly uses it to hasten the spread of effects, namely necrosis/decay, from her spells.
it’s also why her healing is ugly - the body healing traumatised tissue too quickly is a big part of what causes scarring, and it’s why when she heals it scars. she doesn’t often have the time or the books to heal thoroughly and properly, but she can speed the process along. and it works in a pinch.
