Do you have any fan casts or strong takes/feelings on the foxes’ appearances? Fandom tends to use the same Pinterest models, which feels wrong to me.

i do in fact! i've actually been meaning to make a post about how i choose to write all of the foxes' ethnicities anyway

but yes i absolutely agree that the typical pinterest model types u generally see on edits is not how i see any of them. nor is reece king or froy gutierrez or lucky blue smith one of my FCs for anyone

for a lot of them i don't necessarily have a single specific FC so much as i have like,, a general impression of features that i will see on various different people, who all may look wildly different from each other or who may not even look how i see the character as a whole but do have a specific feature i associate with them. mostly it boils down to the Energy i get tbh and that's just a Feeling i cant even explain

fun fact im a tiny bit face blind so that might account for some of why i'm so all-over about this

may as well go chronologically. some of them i definitely have more thoughts on than others

1. Dan

ethnicity: Afro Native (Sioux)

features: medium dark skin. buzzcut, killer fade. she often styles it in waves. she's very butch, wears a lot of basketball and cargo shorts, tank tops and flannels and jerseys, hiking boots. skinny but muscular, with a very rectangular body shape. defined jaw. probably like 5'4 or 5'5

FC/Energy: sometimes i get some dan energy out of janelle monae but more butch. lotta dan energy out of samira wiley. lashana lynch

2. Kevin

ethnicity: a lot of things tbd, but he's pretty multi-ethnic. i like the idea of kayleigh being half- or a quarter-japanese in addition to irish because it gives her more of a reason to go to japan for her undergrad. wymack is from d.c. which is a majority black city for its actual residents, but i also like the idea of him being Pasifika/Hawaiian. HOWEVER - and this is pretty important to my read of kevin's character - he's white passing, and has been mostly treated as a white guy who tans his whole life, like occasionally asked if he's italian maybe. learning that his father was a Distinctly Not White Man was a big shock to him.

kristin kreuk, lindsay price, phoebe cates, and marie digby are all half-asian actresses i base kayleigh on

i suppose i base his story partially on broadway actress carol channing, who revealed publically that she was a quarter black when she was like 80 years old. though maybe wentworth miller, a biracial actor who knows his father is black but also doesn't know him, is more accurate to kevin's story. then keanu reeves is a white passing actor with asian ancestry

also none of these people look anything like how i picture kevin lol. kevin is just like,, a guy. handsome ig. but kind of in a CW character kind of way

3. Andrew

ethnicity: kayin/karen from myanmar

features: fat and muscular, very wide and heavy. this blog is basically all andrew body type refs. medium-olive skin, has a bit of a greyish tinge that makes him look a bit eerie or unhealthy. deep set, droopy eyes; looks so tired. flat face with a low-bridged nose. crooked teeth, especially his canines. natural hair black-ish but he bleaches it light blond. has the beginnings of martial artist punching callouses in his knuckles

FC/Energy: holy shit the characters i feel have Andrew Energy are all over the place. pedro pascal. babe ruth (yes fr). oddjob (harold sakata) from goldfinger. the jinn (mousa kraish) from american gods. gaear grimsrud (peter stormare) from fargo. takeshi kovacs (joel kinnaman) from altered carbon. and i wanna be clear, it's these characters specifically, and generally NOT the actors outside of that specific role. except pedro ❤️

4. Matt

ethnicity: cuban

appearance: matt has more of an Energy than specific features to me rn. that energy is Warm. he has that Warm bro jock dude energy. kind of a marvel hero build, hunky and muscular. very rectangular face. has this haircut:

5. Aaron

i get to cut myself some slack and not go AS in depth about aaron because he and andrew are identical twins

ethnicity: kayin/karen from myanmar

appearance: similar build to andrew, less confident and casual posture and body language. less apathetically murderous and more emotive expressions. better teeth bc his mom took him to the dentist. yes also bleaches his hair

celebrities: probably a lot like the difference between the characters and the actors. andrew is the characters and aaron is how the actors actually look. idk ive never looked at someone and thought 'hey! looks like aaron!'

6. Seth

ethnicity: have been going with half-vietnamese. considering looking into various south asian possibilities like pakistani

appearance: string bean build. that's all i have to offer

7. Allison

ethnicity: allison's very up in the air for me. she and seth are the two foxes i feel fine with being white, but im committing to having no white foxes sooo. i would say i generally see her as either half-middle eastern or chinese

appearance: plus sized and hourglass shaped. heart shaped face. taller, like 5'8 or 5'9. she has a pretty fraught history with her appearance and her parents payed for/pressured her into getting a nose job to have a 'prettier' nose. she also bleaches her hair blonde. she gets it done at a salon tho the twinyards do it in their bathroom

FC/Energy: elle king and nadia aboulhosn are my main inspos for her, esp body type but nadia esp in Vibes

8. Nicky

ethnicity: multi-ethnic. his mother is southern mexican Indigenous, possibly oaxacan. his father is mixed white/kayin

appearance: definitely takes after his mother while his father is white passing. dark brown skin, warm undertones. slightly stocky build. tall ovular head and thin aquiline nose. he's kind of just,, the opposite of the twins ig, so like their facial features look very different, which is a big part of why people don't make the connection between him and the twins alongside the difference in their skin tones, heights, and builds. nicky's build and features are very vertically-oriented, with a tall head, narrow-set eyes, thin nose with a high bridge, etc. the twins are horizontally-orienged, with broad, flat faces, wide-set eyes, wide noses with a low bridge, etc.

FC/Energy: yalitza aparicio, not a guy but one of the few Mexican Indigenous stars in the film industry and i really like her features for nicky. she's oaxacan

9. Renee

ethnicity: Black. african american

appearance: plus sized, circular/apple body shape. round face. dark skin. microlocs to a bit past her chin, bleached white and dyed at the ends. she and allison go to the salon together. femme but plain style, a lot of blouses and long skirts, practical shoes. knuckle callouses. about 5'6

FC/Energy: dominique fishback. tracie thoms, esp in RENT. gabourey sidibe. nicole byer, but not in Energy. brandy, for some reason, probably bc i think she has very serene Energy and is a little bit otherworldly. like if brandy played arwen or galadriel from lotr it would make perfect sense to me, and that's the Renee Energy™️

10. Neil

ethnicity: mixed. Black/Jewish on both sides. his father is polish ashkenazi and afro-brazilian. his mother is Black British and algerian jewish

appearance: very... sharp. like sharp all over. does that make sense? sharp features, sharp face shape, sharp angles to his body. he's got what i vaguely think of as a 'basketball build' not meaning tall but meaning very rangy and angular and lean. all limbs. seth has a similar build. lighter brown skin. he has waardenburg syndrome which is actually where he gets he gets his eye color, and his eyes are very large and widely spaced as well. freckles freckles freckles. freckles everywhere. 4a hair but at least during canon it's not very healthy and thus the curls aren't well-defined. he grows it out long enough to tie back and starts taking better care of it in post-canon. wonky, slightly crooked teeth, with a gap between the fronts

FC/Energy: now neil i actually have a ton for. mostly models which im a lil ashamed of bc i do try to draw more from athletes. alton mason is a main body type ref. mugsy bogues is good to see what i mean about the basketball build without the height. here're the boys: cykeem white, luka sabbat, désiré mia, Leo Hoyte-Egan, dylan hasselbaink, this beautiful stock photo model i've never been able to track down

Talking about the twins being buff and cuddly... I always headcanoned the Twinyards as having a similar build to actor Andrew Keenan-Bolger (though iirc he's 5'3" so a tad taller but still ripped and stout and incredibly wholesome).

okay so i don’t wanna be rude about this but i know this ask is a response to either this thread about the twins being plus sized or one of the other threads on the same topic i swear i made around the same time but can’t seem to find. it’s pretty explicit that i’m talking about the twins being fat. i say it multiple times

is not fat. he is not plus sized. he is not “buff and cuddly.” he is not “stout.”

if this is the build you see for the twins that’s fine, you’ll be in plentiful company. i would even love to hear about your refs and claims in another context even if i don’t agree with them because i find the way other people envision the characters to be super interesting, but this ask specifically references a thread where i talk about the twins being fat, where we talk about deconstructions of the notion of weight and health and body type

i actually find it kinda rude and dismissive to send a guy who clearly has less than ten percent body fat in a response to a discussion of fatphobia in sports and medicine. i’m sure it wasn’t your intention but it comes off very badly for your conception of actual fat people if this is what you think i was talking about

also, anon, this isn’t completely against you because i’ve seen this same distorted view of fatness often in the fandom. people are fine saying that andrew is larger, maybe writing about the muscles in his arms or how he “stretches out the shoulders of his shirt” and maybe if they’re really brave they might mention that “soft layer of fat over the hard muscles of his stomach” from all that ice cream he eats hahahahahahahaha. but i have never seen an edit that uses an actual fat person for andrew. i’ve never seen a fat FC, not even a chubby one. rarely even substantially muscular. they’re always 10% fat model types and maybe some have a few more vanity muscles than others but they are still thin. i only know two fan-artists who actually draw andrew fat, @i-did and @bluetheking

it all just shows this massive mental disconnect people have of what they think the human body actually looks like and how it functions if this is what people are imagining when i say that andrew has a large build. it’s also just so reductive of the sheer array of shapes that people’s bodies can be if picturing different builds and body types only gets you one degree of separation away from mr. keenan-bolger here

and of course this is a symptom of a larger societal disconnect from our bodies. i am not blaming you, anon, or anyone in the aftg fandom. this problem didn’t originate here and it’s not contained here and it will not die here. this problem comes from decades of movies and tv shows and commercials and magazines and social media influencers showing us heavily edited images of genetic lottery winners who are 20 minutes away from passing out of dehydration in order to make us think that anyone bigger than a size 8 is obese

so no i’m not blaming anyone but at the same time that doesn’t mean i’m not annoyed and disappointed that people will use the language of body diversity without any actual notion of what that looks like and end up enforcing the status quo even more

now i wanna start with katelyn bc while i don’t think that ppl should be praised for being with a “hard to love” partner bc that’s very shitty, i also think it’s fair to talk about the fact that katelyn probably got a lot of shit for being with aaron. he’s short and he’s fat and he’s a former addict and no getting around it, people are just,, really incredibly impossibly shitty about all three of those things. and of course it’s aaron who suffers the most harassment and judgement for these things but it’s also true that katelyn probably gets a lot of shit for being with him, especially as a cheerleader. for a lot of people that kind of pressure can break a relationship and for that it’s so good and so important to see that katelyn loves aaron including his body, including the way he looks, and wants people to know that. she doesn’t care what anyone says or thinks

idk there are more revolutionary things but that makes me happy bc i love my trash garbage son aaron and he deserves to be loved and seen and shown off in the way he so clearly wants to be but is afraid of

i like to think that katelyn is a cheer base, meaning she’s the one throwing ppl into the air, meaning she’s Big and Strong, and she and aaron are kind of on equal footing. the can both be the legs in the game of chicken, if yknow what i mean. katelyn’s incredibly proud of her strength and her height and sometimes she likes to hold that above aaron’s head a little bit literally lol and pick him up and carry him around just bc she can and it makes him kinda Grumpy But In A Cute Way, but also she likes that he can pick her up and spin her around just as easily. they’re balanced

and then neil

it’s so interesting for me to try and get into neil’s headspace about attraction because i’m allo and he’s demi so we don’t,, operate the same but i find it very fascinating trying to understand approaching attraction from a different starting point

so for neil, bodies are very neutral to him. he’s not attracted to them, he’s not repulsed by them. usually his only thoughts on them are what he can read from them: language, history, physical ability, threat level. that’s all a body is to him. “nice tits” or “great ass” or “hot abs” is all pretty meaningless to him because he doesn’t have that intrinsic gut reaction to these things 

neil’s attraction to andrew comes first from a mental and emotional place and his physical attraction is very much derived from that. he would be attracted to andrew physically regardless of what he looks like, and similarly he would not be attracted to someone who looked like andrew but was not him

from this i like to think that neil’s attraction was built up bit by bit from being allowed to look at and touch andrew. andrew’s arms are hot because they’re andrew’s, his stomach is sexy because it’s andrew’s. for neil those words were amorphous and essentially meaningless before, he builds his understanding of what they mean off of the way he feels about andrew’s body

i could talk about this in circles forever and never feel like i’m explaining it right but just like,, neil is so in love with andrew that whole parts of his vocabularly are formed from and centered around him because andrew makes him  experience entirely new feelings

it's a bit of a charged word i know but it's also not something i want to be ambiguous about and past experience has shown me that euphemisms can lead people to misunderstanding or minimizing what i mean

i want to be clear. i don't think it's a bad word, and i don't think it's a bad thing, and when i describe andrew like that it's not derogatory

that being said, it's also a word that gets used very maliciously as an insult, and i'm sorry that it's a word that's been ruined for you, anon

i was actually planning on making a tag for my posts regarding andrew and body type already, it'll be formatted like my other tags for specific HCs of mine for specific characters, like how i already have #autistic andrew minyard, or #jewish neil josten

i'll also make another tag for the usage of that word specifically. so block or blacklist #cw fat word usage

I also thought of Aaron as leaner then Andrew They are both ripped but Aaron would be kinda leaner and have less body fat I also pictured Aaron and Andrew both having weird eating habits while Andrew would binge on ice cream and chocolate Aaron would drink coffee And yes different workout Routines and Aaron runs a lot more. what I’m saying is Andrew has a nice ass Aaron has a snatched waist! There faces probably still look exactly the same, some people don’t gain or lose weight on there face.

to continue when they switch they probably wear clothes that would make their body look more similar. yes you can barely tell the difference but if you really look at Andrews shoulders and arms it’s obvious so they would probably wear baggy shirts or sweaters.

it makes sense. they definitely play positions that lend to very different workout routines, so having subtle differences in build is totally reasonable, but i also don’t necessarily think it’s too pronounced. like u’d usually have to be looking for it to see it

however,,, the twins absolutely are dummy thicc, that’s very important, but andrew is just slightly dummy thiccer
