Fatal Pulse (Damon Packard, 2018)
Fatal Pulse (1988)
A straightforward pseudo-slasher about sorority girls getting murdered with their tits out. Now, I’m generally a fan of movies where sorority girls get murdered with their tits out, and if nothing else I do have to respect this movie’s dedication to making sure each set of tits are unleashed before or during the death scene, but unfortunately this is a movie that even a comical amount of tits can’t save. As the murders occur, everyone just kinda fails to react for the most part, the entire sorority gets killed, and yet the final girl is still in the house where it keep happening. The leading man is also aggressively unremarkable, with stiff wooden acting and motivations that make no sense. It’s not even clear if we’re supposed to suspect that he’s the killer, other people suspect that he’s the killer because he can't account for his whereabouts during the murders, but neither can the audience. He is a character that only seems to exist when he is on screen, and then just kinda despawns whenever he’s not. So overall just not worth the time to watch it.

“Fatal Pulse”
(New Bev Fright a thon)
-a slasher about killing coeds, where its strengths are numerous and so are its blind spots
-the women in this film are awesome. Interesting and stacked
-the men are so bogus
-there is the comedic relief where every single time he enters the frame a loud “boing!” goes off
+and boy does that get old to me
-I think what really drag this film down (to my eyes) is when it has a long conversation between the men about their backstory; none of the film’s strengths come out
-the cinematographer(camera) and the gaffer(lights) are having a field day with this film.
+so much hazy and lucid lighting
-none more noticeable than when the 2nd girl is dancing in front of Japanese screens of plants while enjoyably silly Muzak plays
-each new girl is so fun, that one is almost mad when the goofy novelty deaths happen. Almost
-when people didn’t get the winking teen stereotypes in Starship Troopers, I think this is what they were thinking of
-it is incredible how vice like the ghost of Halloween’s(1978) strength was even a decade later
-Joe Estevez (the dorm manager) looks so much like his brother from Apocalypse Now that it was mildly distracting
+he’s a good actor
-this picture works best in the first half and with an audience; I’m not sure I would have finished it at home
