I only recently (comparatively) got into Fate and Type Moon stuff, even though I fell pretty hard. Since getting into it, I’ve been hearing occasional rumors about a fan game someone made years ago. No one seemed to have a copy, but it was apparently a FSN parody of King’s Quest. The guy who made it (it was said) only handed out copies on actual CDs at an anime con once, and that’s why it was so rare.
Not very many people even seemed to know about it, so I always assumed it was a joke. But today I found it! I’m... shocked it’s real. It’s actually very fun! It plays really smoothly on Dosbox, and it feels like a Sierra adventure game. But it’s FSN.
The screencaps came out really small for some reason. Dosbox seems to do that sometimes. Anyway, the “intro” is Shirou’s third day, being given a poster by Taiga, cleaning the archery dojo, getting stabbed by Lancer, all that. You first start actually playing in the hall after Rin saves you, but I got excited and just started playing without taking caps. Sorry!
As you can see, I got all the way back to Shirou’s house before realizing I should be documenting this. I didn’t take too many caps, since you should really play this on your own. But if you want to see a quick sample:
So I got back to the Emiya house and instinctively typed “LOOK ROOM” and “GET POSTER” so uh. Sorry. I’m not very good at capping things.

In true Sierra fashion, you had to type “get trash” in the school hall and it becomes “pendant” only after it’s in your inventory.

As you can probably guess, you are, in fact, supposed to strengthen the post after you get the message about the bell, BEFORE Lancer appears. I figured it out after this. But I got into it and stopped capping again. SORRY I JUST GET EXCITED.
Anyway, again, I highly recommend playing this yourself! It’s called Fate Quest (King’s Quest, Space Quest, Fate Quest, you get it) and it’s seriously well made. The guy who did this was super dedicated. IT’S JUST LIKE BEING INFURIATED BY SIERRA GAMES ALL OVER AGAIN except if you’ve read the vn you probably already know most of the solutions, haha.
Tumblr will probably automatically blow up the weirdly tiny caps, so I guess that’ll be interesting to see.
