IT HAD BEEN THREE DAYS SINCE RATHA RETURNED FROM THE MOUNTAIN. For the first time since she left home a year prior, Mari could feel truly at peace. No calamity hanging over her head, no fear of her or her monsties' wellbeing. No lingering distaste for RAZEWING RATHA, whom so many had believed to be the harbinger of doom. Oltura had been slain and ZELLARD defeated, though there was no telling where that scum of a man had vanished to.
Kyle had already left for home in LULUCION. Ena shortly thereafter, though not willingly. She left Mahana with a promise to be back as soon as she could, once she had shared the word of Oltura's defeat with her village, and of course, notified her grandfather of Zellard's betrayal. For now, Mari's humble little party had been reduced to her, her monsties, and NAVIROU.
. . . NAVIROU said he didn't have plans to leave Mari anytime soon. After years of travel, the felyne felt comfortable to settle down in Mahana and enjoy life a bit for at least a few years. In the meantime, he'd go wherever Mari'd go.
Speaking of which, the cat was basking in the sun, splayed out in the center of the curled, scaly ball that was RATHA—also enjoying some sunlight. Mari sat at the edge of Rider's Overlook, her legs dangling over the cliffside, as she stared thoughtfully into the sea.
Now that she actually had a chance to sit and think, everything that occurred over the past year had hit her like a wall. She hears the soft crunching of footsteps behind her, and turns to see a familiar face making their approach, with their monstie nearby.
