She knew enough from her various studies to deduce what multiple worlds insinuated. A different version of herself said those words about a different Ryoma. That meant nothing for this world's Ryoma.

Maybe Shiro's father was in love with the other her, but that didn't mean it went the same for every world. Or maybe he didn't love her yet; she, for one, hadn't exactly been thinking about love aside from today.

Maybe in this world, she would end up alone and he would be with whomever already caught his eye. That was probably why he was so quiet.

And that was alright, of course! Shiro's appearance just made everything complicated and awkward, but she'd make sure to establish the fact that there should be no pressure between the two of them. She would not be married out of pity or as anyone's second choice. It's not like she wasn't already intending to live life alone. The palace had no shortage of work for her, and she had no shortage of motivation to do it all.

...but she found that she did love Shiro.

"Oh, Shiro," she smiled softly, wrapping her arms around him, "Let's get you back home."

Although the start was rough he was happy to meet you here in the end. It was awkward and it sort of still is... But he didn't care now. No matter when or what version of you he meets you he's going to be happy. Of course he was happy to see his father too, but the situation did leave him puzzled.

"Okay, here I go" he takes a step forward but before he could go further both of you hear "Wait!" as you turn you see Azura with Ryoma, it looks like they were in a rush to get here "The portal won't work that way" she explained after catching her breath.

"Huh? Why not?" Shiro asked.

"That portal you came through was a one way one. But don't worry I know how to get you back home" she elaborated "Say your goodbyes and follow me"

"Bye dad. Unless you still don't consider me as your son" Shiro said before going with Azura, leaving you and Ryoma alone. He looked hurt but he also embraced that it was his fault it turned out to be this way.

"So..." he started the thought but he didn't know exactly how he wanted the conversation to continue. Even though he prepared himself to speak to you about it he just couldn't find the words "That was... Something"

"I can't believe I let him...that I doubted you because..."

She gave a sigh as they headed toward the lake together, "I'm so sorry. You deserve better from me, too, Shiro. I'm aware that Lord Ryoma treated you harshly for it, but know that I'm glad the truth came out."

The lake came into view as they began to slow.

"It would have bothered me to no end; you were so familiar despite it having been our first meeting. So even if you're frustrated, it just...it means the world to me that I got to know you for this short time."

The two had reached their destination. The shore of the lake was only a pace or two in front of them.

"It's not him treating ME harshly that got me mad" he doesn't want you to blame yourself for Ryoma's actions or words "It's just that even now he didn't say a thing to YOU now did he?" and of course he doesn't mean those orders or anything like that but how he didn't even comment on the fact that in the future you'd be together "The you from the future kept telling me how dad loves you so much and he just shows it in ways that aren't so obvious, but even now he doesn't even say anything at a moment like this...! I guess what I mean to say is I just don't know what to think" he sighed in defeat "I'll just talk to you about it once I get back" he looks at the lake for a moment. Before stepping in he gives you a quick hug "Bye mom"

The claim confused her. She was so concerned with making sure Ryoma didn't attack Shiro that she hadn't picked up on what he insinuated earlier.

"Wait, dragon veins? I...Shiro, this is quite the claim to make. You say I'm your mother, but I don't have that ability."

Sure, Shiro wasn't trying to hurt her, and he seemed kind enough...but perhaps Lord Ryoma was right. Perhaps she was being lied to.

"In any case, Lord Ryoma would know if there was a portal in the lake that could be opened with that kind of power, yes? Proving that much is true, and that you can use the vein...it would be a good start."

Ngl I remembered the veins just when I started thinking "hmm what could Shiro do to... AHA!"

"Being able to use the vein could also mean that he might be a Nohrian royalty" even though Shiro's appearance didn't exactly suggest as much, it's only matter of clothing.

"Be what now? Sorry dad, but you never really discussed this kind of stuff with me so I don't even know what a Nohrian is" he honestly just recently found out that he was a Hoshido royal. So now being accused of being from yet another land he has no clue about was kind of frustrating. He kinda got a little too casual just now and probably said too much though.

So glad to see someone posting for fates! Hopefully I can join in with a /c Ryoma x female reader prompt? I know fundamentally it can't work like this in game, but could we do a bit of an AU where Shiro gets out of his outrealm and finds his parents before they're married?

Her eyes drifted off toward the lake as she sat up against a large tree. She had just put her brush down, having shut the book she brought with her and having set her translated papers aside to dry. The work was tedious, no doubt, but at least she could take it anywhere she pleased. Besides, she'd much rather be translating ancient battle strategies than ordering their use. That was a task for someone else.

Solitude had become something she was comfortable with. After all, no one wished to interrupt her while she worked, lest she make any major errors.

But as she surveyed the lake further, she didn't feel so alone. Her suspicions were proven when a man emerged from a lighter-colored area of water, bone dry and wielding a lance. He was approaching her, and it was then she realized that her position in the ground was not a favorable one.

"Wh- Stay back!! Who are you-?! D-don't come any closer!"

She was pushing herself backwards away from the man and the tree; clearly afraid but not willing to take her eyes off him.

Oo no problem! Maybe let's think of it as Shiro accidentally going back in time rather than leaving the realms? Like going for the wrong portal, or maybe just the same thing as kids in Awakening? With doomed timeline and all?

He looked a little surprised when you were the first person he saw. He was happy, but considering your reaction he immediately threw his weapon to the side so you won't think he's here to hurt you "You... You don't recognize me?" he sounded hurt.
