Does Gungir understand that part of the reason MC has no interest in being friends with him is because of the constant favoritism their father shows toward him? How does he feel about getting gushed and doted on by the Jarl who in the same breath berates and treats his own child as less than dirt?

Gungir sees how the Jarl treats you, and he understands the reason behind it. He also knows why you refuse to befriend him, but he cares too much to let your pain go unnoticed. That’s why he continues to check on you, hoping to become someone you can rely on.

He also despises the way the Jarl treats you and the way he shows favoritism, but he still holds a certain respect for the man so his kind words warm his heart even if he doesn't want them to.

Reconnected vs Not

How would he be like as a grandfather?

That's actually a wonderful question.

Forgave: He would return to how he was before your mother lost her mind—goofy and playful, though wearied and tired from his old age. Around you, however, he would grow quieter, more restrained. His guilt would hold him back from joking as freely. But with your children? It would be a different story. He’d come alive again, all smiles and mischief, the way he used to be.

Forgave, Yet Chose to Distance: He would honor your wish for distance, even if it meant staying away from your children as well. Yet, if you brought them to him, he’d seize the chance without hesitation. His usual playfulness would fade, replaced by a careful restraint. Every interaction would be measured and calm so as not to upset you.

Did Not Forgive: A very small part of him would carry a sadness because he lost the chance at a happy family long ago with the blame falling on him. It would be too late for him to change his ways, so he would stick to his old mean-man shtik. The other part, one he forcibly enlarges to overshadow the sadness he feels, would look down on you and your children, but he wouldn’t treat them the way he treated you. But he also wouldn’t go out of his way to improve his relationship with them.

Sort of a hypothetical ask but say if Past!Hallr (before the incident that changed him and he was still a loving father) got transported to the present where he see how badly he and other people treat MC, how would he react?

Hallr would be appalled, his outrage so visceral he’d throw fists first and ask questions later. How could he treat his own child this way? What could drive him to such cruelty? Is this who he will become? The possibility strikes him deep, he would teeter on the edge of a breakdown, and when sent back to his world, he would try to stop that from ever happening.

how exactly did the father become jarl? was he chosen or did he fight his way to the top because you said he was a peasant farmer in an old ask if I remember.

There is actually quite a bit of lore to his story. He was close to becoming a Jarl when he was much younger, but he refused the offer.

He wanted to be Jarl even ever since he was young, but the Jarl's son at the time also wanted the throne. He offered to kill the Jarl and flip a coin for the throne.

Things spiraled out of control. Hallr ended up killing the son and told the people he’d tried to save the Jarl but couldn’t. His actions made him a hero in their eyes, and they offered him the title of Jarl. But Hallr turned it down. He was grieving the son—not just as a rival but as someone who had meant more to him.

When the grief passed, Hallr regretted saying no. A new Jarl took the throne, and life moved on. Hallr’s reputation kept growing, though, and he became the Jarl’s trusted second-in-command. Over time, his name carried so much weight that when the next Jarl was chosen, it had to be him.

Reading up to the father asks makes me want for a reconcilation less. which is sad because he seemed like a good father during the good years in the game itself but damn...the way he would not care at all about his own child. Even if they remind him of their mom feels like they are less than an old rag to him. And for what? His reason is just completely selfish.

So far the way he is talked about in this blog seems like he is irredeemable in my eyes.

Maybe the actual story will make it worth it but for now i hope he dies from diarrhea.

I totally understand this rant. If you don't want to reconcile with your father, you won't be forced to in any way whatsoever. So keep on hating his ugly ass.

But I love happy endings and when people see their wrongdoings. That's what will happen with him if you do choose to reconcile the relationship. He'll feel shitty, and he'll want to make up for all the horrible things he's done to you. And I think it's beautiful.

He will never take the first step to fixing the relationship, but showing him you're better by choosing to do so is a powerful move (in my eyes). It's so much easier to hate people for what they did than to forgive them.

But like I said, both paths are equally epic and I love to write angst so you have a lot of good stuff to read on both routes.

Omg sorry for bothering again but i just thought of this. Would MCs dad care if MC got into a same sex relationship with one of the ROs?

I’ve ranked how the MC’s father would feel about the ROs here, but I realize I’ve never really considered his perspective on same-sex couples before.

Before, the ranking went like this:

1. Thyra. 2. Gungir (very close first). 3. Raud. 4. Anne. 5. ??? (he’s not even on the list, tbh)

If a male MC was the "woman" of the relationship, he would see it as an insult to his name basically. With Gungir especially (on the route where you don’t forgive him), he would see it as you corrupting or perverting him. I feel so mean even writing this. 😭

If you guys are healing your relationship, he would try his best not to let it bother him. Traditionally, he believes you should marry and have children. With a same-sex relationship, you can't really do that. However, he would get used to it over time, growing to feel happy for you.

With a female MC, he would find it strange too, but wouldn't care as much compared to a male MC. In his eyes, he would see it as you fooling around rather than it being something serious. But like I said above, after he notices he's wrong, he would be glad they bring you joy.

This oom is such a dick omg. Even the grankids???!!!! Ooof nah. I shall do the forgiveness route but the fact he would because of his own actions be an ass around MCs kids I'd hate for anyone i had a disagreement with to affect my kids.

And even if he wouldn't be outright mean. Giving them the same treatment MC got which means the villagers would probably also treat them with the same distain as MC had growing up because their own father doesn't like them is bullshit.

That would make me want to murder that old man or just move away. Fuck his self-righteousness.

Lmao Sorry for the rant, but God as a parent myself. This old man would make my blood pressure boil. Even in this hypothetical scenario.

He can be a real dick. That's probably why it's best to move away and cut ties if being nice to him is too much of a challenge. I'm actually very excited to write the epilogue because of this, hehe.
