Well, horses can sleep standing up, so maybe the horse part is standing and the person part is lying back on its own back? also, i adore the way you draw horses.
Thank you, for the compliment :3
Horses themselves sleep standing up or lying down, depending on what kind of sleep they’re getting The problem I would see with a centaur lying back onto their horse back would be that it would (in theory) cause stress on the spine/lower back of their human half, since the pelvic part of their human anatomy would be forced into a bent position.
And really I only did the drawings as something silly while I puzzled the thing out in my head without really expecting to draw on any actual conclusions. I just felt like drawing fatticorntaurs.
But for the sake of trying to put some kind of final note on this, in whatever universe I end up putting fatticorntaurs in, for the sake of decompression on their upper/human spine, they sleep on their sides for the most part when sleeping on their own. You’ll find some that face plant while they sleep or roll onto their backs. Their spines (and bone/muscle structure in general) is much stronger than that of a human or horse, allowing them to move their bulk around and at times of stress or for light naps, fatticorntaurs are able to sleep while upright, much like a high school or college student sleeping at their desk during class.
That said, fatticorntaurs are a very social race and part of their culture involves sleeping together in a big huddle/pile that many theorize dates back to more primitive times when sleeping together in family groups (called puddles) was for safety and protection. So it’s far more common to see fatticorns sleeping draped across each other.
