chinese naming conventions are actually quite indicative of the current cultural prosperity of the nation. back when we had dynasties you could have a surname, a given name, a lineage name, a courtesy name, an art name, a title, hell even a posthumous title if you wanted. then the cultural revolution hit and the name economy took a severe blow so now all you get is your surname and a disyllabic name (or a monosyllabic one if your parents are particularly frugal). but fear not friends in a few decades the ccp will get overthrown by the tibet autonomous region and then everyone will have disyllabic surnames ☺️
