This week has been so long and I'm so tired oof. I have a day off tmrw which means I'll be writing and watching an anime movie series recommended to me by a friend😌 I'll also take a bubble bath and reread one of Vonnegut's novels to gain inspo for one of my next works ((probably Mother Night or Player Piano👀 if one of my readers can tell what the genre of my new work would be based off of this info I'll be pleasantly surprised))

My Mad Obsession with Supernatural Month!

March 11th: Favourite angel besides Castiel

So dreamychick had this awesome idea :D If you want to join us - here are all the details! 

Favourite angel is an awful question. There are so many wonderful angels besides Castiel. I really love Gabriel. He is the most awesome archangel and a really complex and lovable character. Some reasons to love him I mentioned here. I also adore Lucifer, Anna, Michael, Hannah, Raphael, Uriel... They all were so stunning characters (and of course they are all dead or vanished. Gnarf). Most of them were total dicks and it was as easy to hate them as it was to love them. 

(Beware: Long post ahead. I am not sorry.)

But my favourite angel is Balthazar. Sometimes I am not even quite sure why. I remember the first time I saw him - I despised him for being an annoying arrogant character who is too much into himself to fight for Castiel. And I hated his voice so much - like fingernails on a chalkboard.

And then I re-watched the episodes with him in English and fell in love. I mean... Look at him. This little smile there <3 His voice is so warm and self-confident. Somehow everything sounds better in English. 

However, I really like about him that he always stood with Castiel. He was prepared to do anything for Castiel. Hell, he fought Raphael (a scary ARCHANGEL!) to protect Castiel. They were best friends and war buddies and no-one messed with Castiel as long as Balthazar lived.

He unsank the Titanic for Castiel! If you remember how weakened Castiel was after his trips into the past then you know how much Balthazar gave for him. He traveled a hundred years back just to give his best friend the needed 50k souls. 

And of course he couldn't admit to the Winchesters that he would do anything for Castiel. But in my opinion the Celine Dion song was a very valid reason to change the past. Have you ever listened to the song? Awful.

Obviously the Winchesters were really bad luck for him and Castiel changed his mind about the souls. I really love his resigned smile here. Maybe he thought that Castiel was a fool for listening to some random humans but nevertheless he did as asked and sank the Titanic again. He was always too loyal to Castiel.

Another reason to love him: He gave us the most-Destiel quote ever. Destiel is canon and all the angels, demons and monster know about it. :D As far as I remember Dean didn't even try to disagree.

And he is the reason for one of the most hilarious episodes ever - The French Mistake. I am quite sure that Dean and Sam wouldn't agree with me but I think that his plan to distract Raphael was awesome. And it worked! Castiel got his weapons and fought successfully against Raphael. And Balthazar is one hell of a badass!angel. His vessel is missing a lung and considering that he fought against other angels we can assume that not only his vessel was injured but he himself too. And yet he didn't loose his sarcastic wit. Plus he was able to send Dean and Sam into another dimension. I was impressed.

However, there are so many reasons to love him. He made me laugh so hard. He didn't take any shit from Dean and Sam and as much as I love the Winchesters - they deserved it.

Let's be honest: Summoning a random angel just because you have a question? Balthazar was right, this was quite rude. He just wanted to be left alone and help Castiel with his fight. He certainly didn't want to spend his time with his least favourite humans.

He was right. He was so damn right. I think he had some hidden feelings for the Winchesters and he respected them for their effort to save the world. But most of the time he was just annoyed because their summonings interrupted more important tasks like keeping Castiel safe and helping him to win his war against Raphael. 

I hold the opinion that Balthazar was quite fond of humanity (Humanity in its original meaning, not as a synonym for Dean Winchester). He obviously enjoyed sex very much and considering that angels are very strict about consent I think that his vessel's soul was in heaven like Jimmy Novak and the soul of Gabriel's body. I think Balthazar took care of his vessel's soul as soon as he decided to stay on earth. As far as I remember he never insulted humans as mud monkeys like his brothers did. He enjoyed his life on earth until the moment he met the Winchesters. 

One of my favourite scenes. Everything you need to know about him in one gif. He loved good food and luxury. He liked to show the body of his vessel. And he didn't want to return to Heaven. I was always curious what happened in Heaven that he abandoned Castiel and hid on Earth. I think he was a much more complex character than the first sight showed. Obviously he didn't take God's leave very well.

He was filled with so much bitterness... He tried to make the best out of his situation.

He was always so loyal to Castiel. He would have done anything for him. And he was such an awesome friend that he tried to save Castiel until the end. He sided with the Winchesters to save his best friend - because he saw that Castiel's plan was awful. He told Castiel that his plan was bullshit and that the end would be sad and painful. And he was right...

Balthazar's last scene was so heartbreaking. He was so hurt inside that he had to betray Castiel for his own good and he hoped so much that he could save everyone. In the end every single one of his fears came true. Castiel was overpowered by the souls and lost himself. The angels lost their war against themselves. So many were dead that there were no winners. Balthazar was right the whole time.

In my headcanon he didn't die but learned one or two tricks from Gabriel regarding illusions and surviving murderous brothers. He tricked Castiel into believing that he killed him and took off to live his life far away from Castiel and all other angels who betrayed him... Maybe France or so.

And when Castiel is ready to see him again he comes back and tells his best friend that he forgives him everything and they live happily ever after. And no, I don't want to hear that we saw his grace burning and the hurt and betrayal in his eyes. LALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LALALALA. Balthazar is alive in my little world and I like it here, thank you very much. 

Excuse me while I drown my pain in re-watching every single episode with him.
