I just want to say thank you for letting me crash and speed write little fics for ya'll. Thank you for all the kind words and brilliant ideas. I'm really sorry I didn't manage to do all, but maybe we can do it again another time.

Hello there, Kazu is wonderful

Mei was waiting. She was good at waiting. The sun was shining and her small umbrella protected her from its scorching rays. Around her, the pink petals of the cherry blossom trees floated through the air.

”Patient one…”

The sound of Kazu’s voice made her turn.

”Hello.”

”Did you wait for me long?”

She looked down and smiled.

”No longer than I expected.”

The ninja looked boldly at her, unable to decide if she was teasing or chastising him. Instead, he made a move to walk. She followed.

Together they walked down the path between the long row of trees. The wind was blowing from east, the scent of the flowers caressing Mei’s cheek and filling her lungs.

”You should not have to wait for me. If I’m not there, it is my loss, not yours.”

Mei didn’t know what to say. She glanced to the side, hoping to see Kazu’s profile, but caught his eyes instead. She looked away immediately.

”In many ways, you are like a cherry blossom yourself, blushing one.”

He held out a hand in the wind.

”To watch you is to witness a triumph of nature. Something so majestic, yet delicate…”

Petals danced around you, landing on his palm at times before flying away.

”You envelop me, touch me, fleetingly at times, but always there, dancing…”

When a bright pink and perfectly shaped petal touched his palm, he closed his hand around it.

”Sometimes, I have to be quick to preserve the moment. To capture your essence for myself. Selfishly holding on to the feeling you’ve evoked inside me.”

Mei followed his hand with her eyes. Kazu caressed the flower carefully and then placed it between the layers of his clothes, next to his heart.

hey there, I don't know how canon this is....

”I wish you weren’t here.”

I peered up at the general. His hard expression concealed a nervousness I’d never noticed in him before.

”Too bad. I don’t trust you to make decisions like this.”

I turned back around to the task at hand. The jewellery clerk looked between us, probably wondering what on this god forsaken earth had brought us together.

Dmitry put his arm around the back of my chair and leaned back in his.

”Whatever you like then.”

I rolled my eyes.

”Fine. I like this.”

An opulent white gold band with ornate details, masterfully spun around a large rose-coloured diamond, shone invitingly at me.

”Not that one.”

I knew he was gonna be like this.

”Alright, then this one.”

This time the thin band was made of platinum, with two diamonds shaped into teardrops, curved around each other in a yin and yan formation. This was the one I actually wanted.

”Can’t be that either.”

I spun around and glared viciously at the general.

”Who do you think you are? I want this one.”

”No.”

”No? Why not?”

”It doesn’t match your eyes.”

His words made me pause. He moved forward, resting his hand on my thigh casually instead. 

”It should be something like this.”

He pointed to a simple gold band with a large green diamond in the middle and two smaller cut diamonds on each side. It was simple yet unique, dark and also practical.

As I leaned forward to get a better look, I felt his hand reach for my face and move my hair back, away from my face. An intense feeling of…. love, bubbled up from the depths of my soul.

”But of course. It’s up to you.”

These outfits were ridiculous, but Mimi had insisted we blend in. My breasts were a sneeze from spilling out on the table.

As I sat in discomfort, Mimi was smirking at me from the opposite side. She was wearing a skin-tight leather bodysuit, so snug you would think it was painted on her.

”I like what I’m seeing…”

”When we’re done with this, I’m getting out of this dress so fast…”

”Mmm, yes, I like the sounds of that…”

She playfully bit her lip  and brought her drink to her mouth as her eyes darted across the room.

”I spot the target, he’s just sat down.”

I moved my ridiculous hair behind my shoulders and pulled out a compact powder to fix my makeup. In the little mirror, I confirmed her sighting.

”Great, now we wait…”

A waiter came over and without bothering to read the menu, we both pointed at random to stuff. The man looked confused, how could the two of us eat that much, not to mention drink a whole bottle each…

”Leave already, scram.”

Mimi waved him away impatiently. 

”You’re gonna attract attention.”

He had left by the time I said this, but Mimi brushed it off.

”It’s fine, we’re fine. You’re sitting there looking gorgeous, the target is indulging in every earthly pleasure he can find… let’s enjoy ourselves while we still can.”

She took my hand and placed the tip of a finger between her black lips.

”I know I want to…”

I heard a knock on the door. It was past 10 PM. Who could that be?

”Yes?”

I spoke through the door. Better safe than sorry.

”It’s me.”

Brian’s voice came through, sending a rush of emotions through me.

”I don’t want to see you.”

”Open the door, Catherine.”

”Please leave me alone.”

I turned away. I couldn’t bear to see him right now.

”Please. I have Sam with me. Don’t leave us out here.”

Just then, I heard an excited yip. It really was Sam.

”For god’s sake, Brian…. oh, alright.”

I took off the chain and unlocked the door. Tentatively, I opened it to the sight of Brian, leaning into the doorframe, his face mere inches from mine.

”Why didn’t you pick up your phone?”

I waved him off and turned around, leaving him to enter and close the door behind him.

”I’m not in the mood.”

Sam ran up to me and licked my palms. I scratched him behind his ears and petted him lovingly.

”What about me?”

Brian smirked at the sight of me, showering his dog with love.

”Do you deserve it?”

”I think I do.”

”And why is that?”

He handed me a bag that he’d been holding this whole time. It had two containers in them.

”What’s this?”

”Ice cream.”

I placed the bag on the table and opened up the containers. Sure enough, it was ice cream, my favourite from a shop across town. 

”You shouldn’t have.”

”I think I should.”

He moved closer. I could feel the warmth of his body as he hesitated for a split second and then planted a kiss on my forehead.

”Feel better soon.” 

Then he signalled for Sam to follow him.

”Wait, you’re leaving again?”

Brian turned back, his hand already on the door handle.

”I thought you weren’t in the mood?”

I smiled.

”Come back here…”

Hello! I'm picking the top one.

As we walked leisurely up the narrow English road, hand in hand, there wasn’t much on my mind except her and us and where we would stop for dinner before reaching the hotel. Lima had her hair down, the fiery red locks floating through the wind playfully as we trudged on, navigating the steep incline of the little village.

”Oh look!”

She stopped and pointed into an ornate display window. I looked up at the sign.

”Rose’s Antique Bookstore...”

I made a face and looked at Lima who knew what I was on my mind.

”It’s highly unlikely…”

I could feel her tugging in my arm. She wanted to go inside.

”Alright, but only for a moment…”

We entered to the chiming of a delicate bell. An older woman with thick glasses greeted us from behind a small desk, stacked with books.

Lima guided me deep into the store, rows and rows of old spines watched us from the floor to ceiling shelves. At the very back, we found a collection of rare volumes, encased in a glass cabinet.

”Have you been here before?”

I looked quizzically at her.

”Everyone knows the good stuff is at the back… Oh wow, Le Fang’s Carmilla is in there.”

I peered into the glass display case. I was more used to dusty history and academic readings, not so much literary work.

”What is it?”

Lima smiled and bit her lip.

”A guilty pleasure of mine… We should get it. I’ll read it for you tonight.”

I smiled back.

”Okay.”
