“Wild, Bunny, we’re leaving!” They both jumped, whipping around to Hyrule, who now stood by the cave’s entrance, suddenly barren of the oil tarp that had been there not so long ago. The fire had been snuffed out, and the other heroes were gone.
But that wasn’t what Link focussed on. Nor was it for Wild.
“‘Bunny’?”
Hyrule blinked, as if he hadn’t realised he’d said it himself. “What… Oh! I didn’t mean—it kind of just stuck. Sorry, I didn’t mean to call you that. I’m sure it’s weird for you. But, uh… we do need another name for you, other than Link—that gets confusing really quickly, as I’m sure you can imagine.”
Link huffed a laugh and dipped his head. And… if he was honest with himself, the name wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t related to his hero’s title, The Hero of Legend, at all, and it suited this him better than anything else he could think of.
Besides, when he found a way to shift back to a rabbit again, they wouldn’t need to change to Bunny again from anything else they might choose to name him.
Conveying that wordlessly to Hyrule wasn’t easy, but after a few gestures and hand waves, Wild caught on to what he was trying to say. “You don’t mind that name?” Wild asked, to which Link nodded quickly.
Hyrule breathed a sigh of relief. “Okay! That saves us a lot of time thinking up something new. Now, Wild, Bunny—shall we head out before we get left behind?” They nodded and set out together.
And from then on, Link was known as Bunny.
