aaaaand this is all i hear in my head when i’ve had men, that i have specifically chosen not to date, say that i am not wife material. they think i’m funny, they think im smart, i have multiple degrees, i have similar interests to them, they think i’m interesting, they think im sweet, i know how to cook, im happy to clean, i do my laundry, ill do my friends laundry, i buy or make everyone presents, im fun, i entertain people, i make plans, im happy to do all these helpful things, BUT!!! two things: (1)...i don’t want to date them. and (2) i voice too many opinions that oppose theirs. 

but let me tell you this. i am well aware that i have every single characteristic that would traditionally make me an excellent “wife”, PLUS some. and so i know better than anyone that these men who have told me this only say it because i don’t want to marry them. they know “you’re out of their league,” as one of my friends put it. and the patriarchy DOES condition men to believe that a woman who serves them in such and such a way is the only type of girl who ought to be married. she doesn’t want to marry me, specifically? ok, then she doesn’t deserve marriage. and this is why i refuse to be disrespected in certain ways, and this is why i will always stand my ground when i know that the other person is out of line. either you think i’m your equal, or you’re not worth the effort expended.

if you think that a girl is only “wife material” insofar as she is “obedient”, do every woman on earth a favor and dont date. dont marry. stay alone. or, you know, maybe you could change your perspective. women are allowed to think differently than you, and it doesn’t make them crazy. you need to like your wife, otherwise you shouldnt have one.
