INTRODUCING THE WIZARDING WORLD CUP
Hosted by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
DATE: November 9th, 2018 ATTIRE: Dress attire; school colours, if applicable.
The air on the night of November 9th, 2018, was thick with excitement. Spectators piled in to the quidditch stands, enchanted for the occasion to increase their capacity and decorated in the official colours of all seven participating schools. The pitch itself had been transformed. The field was now a sprawling map of the school's home countries - Scotland's rolling hills, the mountains of Japan, the rain forests of Brazil. All in miniature form, rising out of the very ground itself, spanning the length of the entire pitch. Birds and other creatures darted in and out of the miniaturized trees.
The Opening Ceremony began with a spectacular presentation of dancers, music and storytelling. The delegations from the international schools were introduced and formally welcomed to the tournament. Hogwarts Headmistress Cassandra Vimes provided the opening address, wishing all participants good luck in the tournament, though confessing (to some laughter) to a personal bias as to which school would emerge the victor. Following a special fireworks presentation - and a moving choral interlude by the Hogwarts choir - the ceremonies were concluded by the head of the Wizarding World Cup Organization, who stressed once again the deplorable affect accidental deaths had on the WWCO's insurance premiums, and advised against excessive violence, prank wars and illegal drug use.
Following the ceremony, students were welcomed into the Hogwarts Great Hall for an introductory soiree, to meet with their competitors and celebrate the beginning of the tournament. Attendance at the soiree was limited to students, professors, sponsors, WWCO officials, and a small group of press. The Great Hall was decorated with the crests of the schools and the WWCO. Food and refreshments were served to the attendees to the sound of a live jazz band, the Galumping Grindylows. Students were invited to mingle with their fellow competitors and celebrate this unification of wizarding cultures.
The Wizarding World Cup has now officially begun! Feel free to thread your characters in the situations of both the opening ceremony and the soiree, both of which will take place in the Wizarding World Cup event forum.
