I want to try to get into doing doll photos regularly again XD  But we shall see.  I found some really cheap zoukeimura eyes on ebay, and wow they are gorgeous in person.  Too bad you can only get them with FCS or second hand.

I find I really like fur wigs on the old volks dolls, I think since they’re already so stylized it doesn’t look as out of place as it would with a more realistic mold.  And, hey, you can’t do a neat fake blowing wind effect with fiber, now can you?

Although logistically more difficult, it’s usually more fun to take photos of 2+ dolls rather than one.

(Somehow the fingernails on these volks bodies match perfectly, both were bought from Japanese second hand web storefronts, so maybe it’s either a style that was/is popular or even was painted by the same artist, who knows!)

Recently, I gave into a mold I’d always wanted to bring home.  In my early years of the hobby it just wasn’t feasible in terms of expense, Volks FCS heads being much more difficult to come by.  And more recently, I’d hesitated because I was never quite sure I would like it in person.

But finally I gave in and bought an F17.  So far I’m happy with him and the faceup he came with, though I think I may try to add on to his eyebrows a bit as it’s difficult to see them at all in photos.

But now begins that period as with every new mold, trying to learn its quirks and how to best photograph it.
