#madness combat #fd_art #2bdamned #madness combat deimos #madness combat sanford #the sheriff #jebediah christoff #i need to ramble shit in my own space more. i like to contemplate and challenge my own ideas and perspectives of these characters #in doing so i have gained an even deeper appreciation for them over this past year. and idk I would like to think or hope that #my takes could be interesting or thought-provoking enough to be worth uhh. discussion? that I could provide something perhaps #unique to the table that justifies myself. there are many whose work I look up to in this space and I hope I can be a similar inspiration #to someone else. anyway #you know deimos probably has an affinity with radio things now that I'm thinking of it. objects and sounds and feelings. cig breath and #radio crackles in the ear and blood-caked hair on the chin. some faint smell of something he chewed on this morning. a wiry and wary #touch that doesn't linger unless its familiar with you. skittering to and fro like he always has somewhere to be in mind and body #where sanford has a sturdy warmth to his presence. a somewhat distant resoluteness #a commandeering 'i have eyes and ears scanning my surroundings at all times'. cheap soap masking deep-seated oil and blood #a firm grasp that knows precisely the degree of strength he holds and how to remind others of it. a stern face that softens into rounded #shapes when his heart melts. and quite the nuance to his brow expressiveness as deimos would tell you #and you would think him almost an entirely different grunt when he's with deimos #that radio thing is one of dei's links to zero actually. i should talk about it or somehow. draw it. bit abstract but fun #think like the first major/title cutscene from signalis - that's kinda a bit like the imagery and feel of zero+dei #ah i played signalis in december and to my pleasant surprise it is deeply applicable to zero. i had a feeling based on the music

MUCH happier with this now. i have a strong fondness for him as MC12 was what got me 'back into' this and its coming up #to almost a year now since i first started drawing madness combat and funnily it all started with sanford so. i like him a lot #i plan to eventually do the rest of the cast but i'm not going to push myself too harshly. next on the line would be sheriff and jeb tho #sheriff is very close to getting a proper design. i've got a few doodles and the backlog of discussion between rover and sheriff is #piling up the point where i need designs for sheriff (and phobos) to start talking about him more.#in my absence i have been avidly focused on drawing so i have a decent pile of art that i will slowly share again. still getting my nerves #back eheh. arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh whatever i can do this #edit: keeping up my habit of having something to say just after posting or finishing something but one thing i'd change:#hank's jaw doesn't really give them a *smile* per se. it just makes their face really really hard to read #like what are you supposed to glean from their expression? their jaw is locked in place. half of their face is ripped off #and their facial muscles don't even move. how do you emote hank? do you at all? i think that's a fun shared thing between #hank and zero: their faces don't express anything at all.#they're looking at you but. you can't really tell what they're thinking. which is frightening to be on the receiving end of #idk if anyone would remember that old emotion chart i did for zero but like that whole thing can be thrown out of the window. she seldom #feels anything at all and expresses even less. that's just the nature of “existing wrong” and the way her life came to be. much like hank #edit2: i realised i have the power to just change the image and its gonna annoy me if i leave it hello if you're seeing me do this fkjgnskf

an early (technically) valentines day post but for... a redesigned, rewritten valentine! hehe

#madness combat #madness combat oc #fd_art #oc: val #body horror cw #long story but essentially the short of it was.. to begin with i never got that compelling feeling when it came to writing/thinking about #val. pieces just never fell into place and it took me a long while to recognise some of those problems (largely cus my mind was more #focused on my other OCs) and there were quite a few. the emotional core i was aiming for just didn't work in the context of #madcom. maybe turning away from the urge or the need to kill COULD work but in val's original concept it just didn't really make sense #or if not that it was just not very inspiring. if val's story was of a smaller scale she maybe could've worked fine. but i do tend to aim #for some sort of greater narrative being said. of which i am still kind of cracking away at - but it feels more promising now #krinkels put it best in i think it was a CC response. there is no good and evil - the frame of reference for protag and antag is constantly #shifting. so the idea that val was trying to turn away from a darker nature just lacked any oomph or feel because like. who cares? the idea #of something 'demonic' becoming 'human' didn't feel like it worked in the framework of madcom. the same standards don't exist #in this world and thus i needed to change val. n her story and especially her demeanour is still being worked on and i haven't #decided entirely but i have a few points i think will stick: val was once a nexus scientist. favoured by phobos with an insatiable #drive to seek the unknown val was stationed to create the gore and mechanics and basis of what became gestalt. alone in a lab beneath #the science tower. pushing the limits of nexus' research and delving further into what could be described as an eldritch abyss #val essentially imploded from what she saw for just a moment. audie stepped in and said it would remake what she had lost if she #signed a contract to become a detective - someone who would go and solve anomalous dissonance problems #what exactly i'm trying to say here with her is currently being picked apart in my brain. i'm not sure yet. i'm not even really too sure #what kind of person she is. but i definitely know its meant to be in line with and a partial inversion of both doc and jeb #i think she should be a bit rude and abrasive but not cruel. proud and smart but poorly adjusted in a lot of ways. but the point #being that through her detective work she learns of her own heart and desires. where before she was merely a #another limb of the sprawling mass that was nexus. a pillar implanted with corroded ideas upon which to build a god #morally complex characters are harddd. this is definitely challenging my character writing capabilities LOL #anyway. very pleased with the lovecraftian detective-scientist angle/elements that i have gone for here. it fits more and #i think it just has more potential in general. i hope. there's a few more pieces i'll need to do up as references but this was already like #a lot of work and i haven't drawn in a fair while so i wanted to pace myself reasonably. and i am very happy with it
