i need more characters with actually good factitious disorder (imposed on self) rep… any representation is fine but usually it’s always imposed on another,, which is a form of abuse,, and im not very happy the only representation for Münchausen syndrome/factitious disorder are child abusers,, Not to say it’s not a real disorder! It’s just the only type that i see being shown in media which is a bit disappointing,,

i personally think the worst type of carer with msbp? the ones that do it for attention, but don’t actually take care of their victim, like..they just want the attention and don’t care if their kid dies or eats or anything

Parents allowing their kids to be trans isn’t msbp. it just isnt. and actually, as a trans guy who is also a victim of msbp, by saying it is, it feels really fucking invalidating and I can tell you, those two things are very very very very different

but also,,,,most cases of mbp dont have some big escape its more like

and then you’re still forced to live with it!!! !! while trying to like move on and take control of your own life,,,,,but yOURE STILL LIVING WITH YOUR CARER AND YOURE TRYING TO HEAL THAT RELATIONSHIP

Okay I'm making this post out of pure desperation because Google is genuinely pissing me off and I don't know what else to do.

Can anyone suggest articles/books/blogs/whatever that talk about the affects and experiences of Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another (FDIA) or more commonly known as Munchausen by Proxy? More specifically of how it affects the victims.

I've found millions of online sources that just repeat the same bits of information, about what it is and what may cause it, but they barely talk about how it affects the victims. It will only give vague answers that don't help me.

I'm trying to write a story involving a character who went through FDIA but literally nothing online gives me decent insight into it so I can best represent it.

Please, I'm desperate. If you have anything online that might help me, please let me know.

The only difference between Dee Dee Blanchard and the neurodiversity advocates insisting that Einstein, Mozart, etc were autistic, is that Gypsy Rose Blanchard is alive and thus can openly challenge her supposed illnesses. In a way, this makes retrospective diagnosis slightly more insidious.

A factitious disorder imposed on the deceased is still a factitious disorder.

I’m sending this with kindness and sympathy for your experiences,, but the previous anon wasn’t saying your abuse isn’t real, they were validating that you are a victim of abuse.

Anon was saying that FDIA is an inaccurate word for abuse. Neglect is abuse. Physical mistreatment is abuse. Doing either of those to make a child sick, or convince them they’re sick, is abuse. It’s similar to how “narcissistic abuse” isn’t real either, it’s all equally abuse, that isn’t specific to any one group or individual.

They were suggesting that viewing these methods of abuse as a medical condition (FDIA) removes accountability from the abuser, and is damaging to victims of said abuse, because it’s not being recognised AS abuse. The blame for the perpetrators is put onto an imaginary condition, when they’re actually to blame as an abuser, similar to any other abuser.

I’m sorry you experienced the abuse you did, you never deserved that I wish you well with healing.

fdia is much more than "neglect" / "physical mistreatment" and you know this do not be intentionally obtuse. fdia describes a very unique rare specific type of organized repeated abuse that 99% of neglect or physical abuse survivors will not relate to. we deserve a term for our experiences. comparing this to the concept of narcissistic abuse is a false equivalence because npd is mostly characterized by how it affects the individuals suffering with it and nowhere does the criteria of npd outright say an individual must be an abuser, so narcissistic abuse is not a real thing tied to npd. on the other hand, fdia is inherently always abusive and every criteria is broken down into how the abuser treats their victim. it is abuse specific to one group in the sense that its a very unique and intentional form of abuse that other labels do not apply to.

claiming im being ableist or something to people with fdia is also a stupid claim considering not every diagnosis in the dsm or icd is even about mental health, let alone supposed to be classified as a mental disorder. i'm diagnosed in my records with "housing issues" because i'm homeless. that's obviously not a unique mental health thing, lots of people healthy and not are homeless. additionally, i dont know why you're so very eager to defend abusers. anyone with fdia / mbp is an abuser because the criterion explicitly describes abuse of others and honestly not much else. the last anon i got said all fdis comes from neglect, but this is just a theory and isn't included in any legitimate sources as a solid criteria needed for diagnosis for fdis. nonetheless i honestly don't want people with either label interacting with my blog, because if you choose to willingly self identify with the condition that is fully described as "intentionally and repeatedly lying about serious medical conditions and perpetuating ableism for sympathy" You Are A Bad Person. i don't care. goodbye.
