I love mount names
As someone whose entire personality is being wrapped around Tellius' pinky, I was sad it didn't give mount names.
Being 'Murican, when FE9/10 came out the only prior FE games I had played were 7 and 8. Both of those games name a few of the wyverns and pegasi. I LOVE animals so I was over the moon when I was graced with some of their names. Something as simple as a name encourages what FE is known for: creating an individual that I MUST PROTEC. Suddenly I don't only care about Cormag, because Generog is my favorite wvvern in the whole world and I will commit war crimes for his safety.
Tellius doesn't entirely ignore the mounts. Haar arguing with his wyvern, and Kieran calling his horse his "brother-in-arms" (even if that is the same tier granted to his canteen) brings me significant joy. But I wish I could call them more than "X's mount."
All that to premise: I have a headcanon. See this horse?
Mist's horse is named Boots.
Ngl, I had named him that before realizing it was a clever FE stat boost item reference. My friends thought I was a genius naming this horse, I definitely just wanted to give him a name I thought Mist would name something.
Anyway, in my headcanon: Boots is a Daein warhorse that Soren stole during the clusterfuck that is Melior 9/11 to make it back to the Greil Mercenaries fort.
No the stirrups aren't short enough. And Soren is not friendly to the horse. To him, the horse is a mode of transportation. He did his best to remove Daein insignia and that is it. Go horse go.
Which is why when he jumps down from the saddle and asks:
"Where is the Commander?"
And Mist, not yet knowing the gravity of the situation, be like:
"But WHERE is my souvenir?" ***
He drops the reins in her hands and slips past her.
***
(You know she demanded this of Soren too.)
I'd think Greil wouldn't be pleased at having to afford another horse if there weren't bigger things to be concerned about.
Boots is also the horse referenced here:
Because hey, we now have three horses.
(It's stupid but I love that Ike knows how to tack a horse even if he doesn't fight on one. I think people forget about this sometimes.)
Thank you for your time and allowing me to spread the word about Boots.
