Happy Wincest Wednesday!! ♡

First, thanks for the ask! Second, this is a really good question, and it got me thinking. So I'm just gonna ramble a bit about why I think they have each phobia I list under the cut. Also, they're not that weird of phobias, I don't think, so I hope that's okay! ^^

Dean:

• Cynophobia: Fear of Dogs.

After being brutally mauled by hellhounds, I would be scared too :( However, in typical Dean fashion, he represses it, and it comes off as just an aversion to dogs. (Ex. Running from that small dog in Yellow Fever, being upset at Sam for having a dog in his car in s8, Portia from Man's Best Friend with Benefits clocking that Dean dislikes dogs.) I think it isn't until Dog Dean Afternoon where he can understand them and act like them, does he come to face his fear and even come to like dogs. Hence why he was sweet with Miracle in s15.

• Pyrophobia: Fear of Fire.

I think this one was temporary, as well, and definitely when he was little. I feel like watching your house go up in flames and having your mom die when you're four will do that to you. As I said, this one is definitely temporary as Dean had to "grow out of it" when he started hunting with John, and they needed to salt & burn bones and things of that nature.

• Taphophobia: Fear of Being Burried Alive.

I don't have much canon support on this one, but I think waking up burried in s4 could've fucked him up a bit. Not to mention in s14 with the Ma'lak Box, he has nightmares about trapping himself in it with Michael. I feel like anyone would be freaked out over this, but I don't know, it just feels right. Dean likes being in control and he usually fears things where he feels trapped and vulnerable (like planes) so I think it's possible.

• Homophobia (Kidding lmao.)

Wait, actually...

• Internalized Homophobia.

I don't have to explain this one. You understand, yes?

Sam:

• Eisoptrophobia: Fear of Mirrors.

Sam is a very guilty character, as we all know, and I think that could seriously skew how he sees himself to the point that he avoids looking at himself whenever he can. I think it gets worse after he gets his soul back, and he has identity issues with all his soulless counterpart did. Plus, all the times he's been possessed. Sometimes, he looks and sees Lucifer, sometimes Gadreel (maybe even Meg in earlier seasons. She could've started his aversion). Regardless, it's just easier for him not to look at himself.

• Phonophobia: Fear of Loud Sounds.

Late seasons Sammy flinches™ :((

In canon, he has visible reactions to Dean getting loud and angry, and I also think it could apply to other loud sounds as well. With all he's been through, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a symptom of his ptsd. (Also, I headcanon that he enjoys spending time with Eileen because it's always quiet. They can sit in silence and sign to each other, and it's calming.)

• Decidophobia: Fear of Making Decisions.

Wait, hear me out. Nearly every time Sam makes a big decision in his life, it backfires on him. It's always the "wrong choice" no matter how much good he tries to achieve. I, of course, don't blame him for this, but basically, everyone in his life does. With that in mind, I think Sam would struggle to make big choices. The fight being zapped from him in the later seasons? Submitting to Dean? It's easier. In his mind he can't "fuck anything up" if he just does what he's told... and even then, it's never good enough :(

Sam & Dean:

• Eremophobia: Fear of Being Alone/Abandoned.

This one also doesn't need explaining. These codependent boys need each other like oxygen. Canon support: the entire show.

• Somniphobia: Fear of Sleeping.

This is a long one y'all...

I headcanon that they both are anxious to go to sleep because [insert trauma here], but they never realized it because they'd always slept either with each other (when little) or next to each other (in motels). But after having separate rooms in the bunker, it called it to attention. I feel like they started (literal) sleeping together after the newness & excitement of having their own rooms wore off.

People can have this fear for different reasons, and I listed nightmares, but I also think Sam would have sleep paralysis and sometimes see Lucifer, which isn't fun. Fear of dying in your sleep can also be a symptom, but I'm spinning this one to the fear of each other dying. If the brothers are (literal) sleeping together, they can check the other's pulse from time to time, feel their breathing, and know that the other is okay. Also, another symptom can be things happening to them in their sleep (website said like burglary, fire, disasters, etc), I think it's fitting too, but it'd be more like monsters and demons for them.

Canon support for this is kinda low, but there is some, in my opinion. In motels, sleeping on the edge of their beds near each other. After hell trauma, sleeping fully clothed on top of the covers, never settling. Guns and knives hidden under beds, mattresses, and pillows. (People have also pointed out seeing one brother's stuff in the other brother's room, so this fuels my delusion that they share rooms in the bunker sometimes.)

Fear Headcanons

Willow's deeper fears that she doesn't talk about are around being helpless and weak, whether helpless to protect those she loves or helpless to protect herself.

She is also afraid of being weak, that is what originally motivated her to regularly work out, she lost her best friend because she was believed to be weak when she was little. If she couldn't be strong in magic then she would in body. Though now she works for both, this also ties in with her fear of helplessness, if she is weak then she can't protect anyone.

Change: What was a turning point in your muse’s life?

“It was a moment in the old timeline. The moment Johnny and Troy stormed in to defend me.

“My school had been closed for a few months, at that point, and Father finally snapped out of his drunken haze for long enough to realize that I was still leaving the house. I guess he began catching up on the news and realized that I started running with a gang, and he didn’t like it because I wasn’t under his control while I was there.

“Troy had been keeping a close eye on me and my behavior, back then. Being a cop, of course he would have noticed the bruises and connected the dots. Hell, he was one of the first gang members to actually guess how old I actually was, which was some topic of debate among the higher-ups. Apparently the most common answer was nineteen. Something to do with a subconscious, self-defensive glimmer… But I was a year away from entering high school, so… I was about thirteen. A tall fuckin’ twig for my age, really, but being a supernatural creature helped.

“Anyways. I guess he’d mentioned it to Johnny one day, and the two staked out my house for a few nights… I was lucky they did.

“I was in the bathroom, trying to cover up a new bruise, thinking Father was passed out drunk on the couch. But he was awake. He decided to confront me about the gang involvement.

“No matter what I said, I always just made him angrier. So he started hitting me. I’d had no problems defending myself when I needed to with other gang members, but with him, I just… couldn’t. I froze. I was too scared to fight back, and it just made him angrier. So it escalated.

“He broke one of his bottles of booze on the doorframe when I was reeling against the tub, held me down by the throat, and started gutting me. He was drunk and enraged, so the first two didn’t quite do the job… The third was when Johnny and Troy busted in. They could probably hear my strangled screams from down the block. Father turned to them, and I was so scared he was going to kill them. Even with my guts spilling out, I grabbed hold of his leg and clawed into it to stop him from charging.

“Then Johnny splattered his brain against the wall with a shotgun.

“It was… surreal, at the time. Not only was I bleeding out and going to die, but this oppressive, invincible figure that was always lingering over me had just been killed. I didn’t know what to think.

“See, when I say die, I mean… actually die. Demon children don’t… well, they don’t come back until they reach a certain age. At least, not in my species. They have to be able to comprehend the world around them, and understand what death is. They also have to have a will to live. I lived through Lin’s and I’s drowning because I wanted to help Lin, and when she didn’t make it out of the trunk with me, I wanted revenge. But here? I was uncertain. I was in pain. I was scared. I just wanted it to stop.

“I passed out somewhere between Troy trying to put my guts back in my body and staunch the bleeding, and being piled into the ambulance. When I woke up and heard that I didn’t have to go back to that asshole, that he was dead? That my friends, my Saints, survived, and that I’d always have a place with them? That was…”

He shakes his head.

“I was so relieved, and scared, and happy. I pretty much decided that the Saints were my home, and where I actually wanted to be. They saved my life, they fuckin’ cared. And I wanted to be there for them, too. Not even Child Protective Services could pull me away.”

“Then Julius happened. That’s… a different turning point.”

Snakes: Would your muse ever keep an unusual/exotic pet?

If he had the chance, he probably would. He’d have to have the space, proper environment, and proper equipment, though; He doesn’t want to go in blind and end up hurting the animal through negligence or ignorance.

Solitude: Name 3 things your muse couldn’t live without.

Talon tilts his head. He points at a crib; Iris, a toddler by now, is climbing her way out while alternating between actual words and chirping to get his attention. He lowers one arm into the crib and immediately, Iris latches on and stops chirping.

“You’re supposed to be napping, kiddo.”

“Wanna play!”

His family, which include his daughter, his siblings, and his Saints.His friends.A soulmate. Once he gets it, he doesn’t want to let go.

Personal possessions don’t matter too much to him. With enough care or mindfulness, they can last a while; The people, though, those are a treasure.

Part of it has to do with losing them all along with the universe in the old timeline. Another part is his stint in his purgatory, where his mental state kept him locked up and his despair kept him isolated from the outside world while his soul was healing. If he had the choice, he’d never be alone again.

Clowns: Does your muse prefer comedy? Or horror?

“Definitely comedy. Horror... I’ve seen too much to really be effected by movies anymore. Now it’s just tiring, or... reminds me of things I don’t want to see again.”

“Even if you don’t count the whole war-at-the-end-of-the-universe, true forms of angels and demons and shitty gods? I’m too busy overthinking things most times to really enjoy what I’m seeing, and the things that do scare me often either aren’t featured, or don’t count because they’re cheap jumpscares. Someone might get me with psychological horror, I guess, but that’s not really fun.

“Now, comedy on the other hand? Just about everyone likes a good laugh. But I’d take a hokey horror/comedy over straight horror.”
