There's a matsuri going on right in front of him. A boy just walked by him with a cotton candy in his hand. Ah, he wants that too but there were a lot of people and stalls.. that he couldn't see where he could find cotton candy from where he stood.
I've been meaning to write out this actually but I don't have the motivation about it right now so I guess I'll just say it out loud.
Naoto encounters some really bad things in his investigation. Most information that he got seems to have nothing to do with each other so for some time he had been taking it his own pace, asking people around, gathering informants, without actually engaging in any of these 'child users' (usually those who trains them to be fighters), since he had not enough evidence to actually valid his acts of killing them after. That's the only thing holding them back from killing. Not the justice thing or whatever, but literally his own conscience.
Until one day, a very strange case of missing child ensued. It was petty. It would have gone unnoticed if not for Naoto's observational skills. One by one random children with nothing in common went missing. Some were from a rich family, some were from the slums, some were homeless. There was nothing that strings these victims together except for the fact that they all had been healthy when they went missing.
One thing came unto another and Naoto found out about a small quiet organization who had been seen to have the missing children in their premise. And what he discovered was alarming. They were not training the children to be fighters. They were literally using the children, their body parts, to sell away for a high price. And it's usually after a week, they would leave the premise they were in, only to leave unneeded parts behind.
It was almost one week after the last child went missing. A boy aged five years old. From a very normal home. Researching of every place that could be used as a premise and with the help of valuable informants, he got to an abandoned warehouse where they were most likely using this time around, crashing into it with a few kicks, loud and strong. He didn't even bother to sneak around. The time was almost up.
But this time, the syndicate was faster. They knew of some leaked information and one of the informant who gave Naoto the information about them was already killed. And they left the premise, leaving a boy behind, all cut up and was left to bleed to death. Some of his organs were missing but the lung, heart and brain was left in tact.
The pool of blood was still warm. Naoto's knees gave way when he was close enough, splashing the redness to his complexion. Slowly, his hand went under the boy's head, cradling it ever so gently. Trembling hands turned the head to face him. The boy was staring blankly, and for one moment, Naoto thought he was breathing. But none of the organs were working anymore. Hugging the boy he never knew to his chest, he regretted every second he wasted, every second that could have made him come to the boy's aid faster.
To save one young innocent life.
He was only five.
Tears rolled down that blood-stained cheeks and a scream resounded in the abandoned warehouse.
The boy was returned to his family and bluntly, Naoto asked the grief-stricken parents what do they want from the killer of their child on the day of the funeral.
"I want to kill them. I WANT TO FIND THEM AND KILL THEM!!"
Was the father's answer.
"Let them taste the pain of our boy... please,"
Was the mother's.
"I'll fulfill your wish,"
Naoto said simply before he left the home of the once living boy.
It took him three days to track down the mastermind of the syndicate. Naoto slashed his katana across everyone who was in the way.Until he was one on one with the guy behind the killings. First, the arms. Then Naoto cut both of the other's ankle only deep enough to bleed and so the other couldn't move.
"I never like to kill slowly but the mother wanted you to feel her child's pain. And I'm not sorry for her wish,"
Then using his katana, along with his bare hands, Naoto pried the organ of the man's body. One by one. Yet, he had no use for it, he just needed to take it out, that's all. So each time after he got one out, he threw it to the wall. The squelching sound was evident to his ears but Naoto was silent. Imagining just how much pain the boy had been in if the man he's doing this to was too weak to even scream then.
The assassin left the brain, heart and lung in tact. The cut up man was breathing last moments in his life.
"I'll end everything in an instant. You wouldn't feel the pain anymore,"
Cradling his victim, Naoto got the other in his arms (he was already very light), and threw him out of the window. From the tenth floor. The only organs left was crushed instantly.
Naoto was hidden by Haiiro Kitsune until everything settled down. He got a phone call from the parents whom wish was fulfilled. Saying a heartfelt gratitude. And that was the only thing Naoto needed to keep going. There was still parents who would cherish their child and anyone, anyone who dared to lay a hand on any children, Naoto wouldn't hesitate to kill them.
He might have had sworn to himself to not let these children enter the fighting world before, but Naoto wanted to do something more. He'd never let any of them victimized, by anyone. Not even their own parents.
The wish to carry on Oto-sama's kind act grew stronger inside him.
And that, was the story of the second time the boy cried.
There was something bugging him about today. Something was lacking.. and somehow he knew that today he would feel this way. This hollow in his chest. The hole to be filled by no one... yet.
He turned to his phone, which was a rare act for him - he was not a technology person, even a basic one like a phone - and saw today's date.
25th December
Oh, it's the day when Oto-sama would bring cakes and sing songs with Kai and the others. Though the tradition had long stopped since Oto-sama passed away. Right on that moment, the phone chose to ring and without much effort, Naoto picked up to hear the booming sound of Kai, who thought it was his duty to be an elder brother to the fighter all the time, babbling to him about happy birthday wish and how he had to come to the mansion to celebrate the day.
Exasperated sigh was let out. Then Naoto could be seen nodding and agreeing to everything Kai said.He flipped the phone close again before shoving it into the pocket of his hoodie.
This year's birthday was going to be the same as last year.
His only wish would be; to fulfill what Oto-sama had failed to do.
Though he'd never admit how his deepest wish was to celebrate it with Oto-sama again. He knew it himself that it would never come true.
