Fearless | Tris & Kenzi
φ—The Choosing ceremony had already finished and Kenzi, an Erudite born, had chosen Dauntless over her family. Her mother just looked at her with great disapproval but Kenzi didn’t care. She just had to get out of that place. No matter where she went in the Erudite compound she always felt pressured and like somebody was watching her. The first few tasks at hand were not hard to her. She was one of the first initiates to jump onto the train and also one of the first to jump backwards off of the roof. The rush of cool air felt good to her and she figured if she was going to die then it was going to happen. Kenzi did not fear many things unlike other initiates. Her father was Hades the lord of the underworld so she had seen a lot more then anybody could ever imagine. Where heights would scare one person Kenzi would gladly jump from a soaring airplane without a second thought. When a person is afraid an animal will attack them-like in the simulation-Kenzi faces the creature and walks over to it petting it. The list of fears that she didn’t had could go on for ages and perhaps that was why her results had proven inconclusive. It was unheard of for an Erudite member to be divergent but Kenzi was. The person who gave her the test covered it up for both her own safety and Kenzi’s stating that her result was she was erudite and nothing more.
The fall from the roof was still running through Kenzi’s mind the next few days. So far they had been through the tattoo parlor where Tori was at and Kenzi had gotten a few unique markings added to her body but now it was time to get down to business. The first stage would be sparring with other initiates to begin ranking them. Two days of this test had already passed and each time they placed Kenzi up against the toughest of the group only to have them down on their knees bloodied and bruised within moments. Even Eric seemed impressed by how good the small girl was at fighting. Looking up at the chalk board today she saw next to her name written another initiate she heard members calling the stiff since she had gotten there. This girl had been the first to jump from the roof and had seemed fearless but Kenzi was unsure of how the battle would go. While the other initiates had been talking up a storm and making friends the past few days Kenzi hadn’t spoken a word. It was if she were mute to everything around her. Still, she felt remorse for being in a fight between her and Tris. She had seen the previous battles and didn’t wish to hurt her. Sighing Kenzi stepped up when her name was called and stood in the middle of the battle area waiting for Tris to make the first move.
