okay so nevermind my first criticism post, im going through further s3 and its worse than i thought, like, they really did Kono dirty on the highest level. the only WOC of the cast. lowkey rage baiting myself watching this but idc, (and i dont know if Grace Park had another serie filming at the time, or something came up and she wasnt avalaible, but the disrespect toward her character is. very questionable) - Chin is allowed to be manhandled, beat up, all season long ( too much to my taste, and okay, the lack of scars and physical continuity is a little bit too much for me, but it's a man, so he can save ppl - women - , have blood - lot of it - on his face, get stabbed, punched and shoot at and be heavily hurt, but not Kono! bc Woman!) - the white woman 'remplacing' her is so obviously more favored, more emotional beats to her storylines, gets to do more shit for herself, be badass, do questioning, while interacting with other characters. (yay! love these debut 2010s show! ) - and dont get me started on the whole 'saving Adam' plot that was so out of the main storyline and scattered along 6/7 episodes it could've as well been a whole spin off episode on its own. (her romance was so. badly written. i needed to touch some grass after), and holy shit, the double standard (ahem sexism), Kono cannot be interrogating her lover's brother bc. yk. conflict of interest and shit. i know damn well it wouldnt have been the same for the men. - the only roles for most of poc being caricatural villains as opposed to the white ones who have the right to unlocked tragic backstories dpmo (Lou Grover being the exception - ok, not a villain - but they were able to give him that much, so why not for Kono?? man had more emotional talk with Steve in 10 min than Kono or Chin the whole season) - read a comment that these 2 latter managed to keep H50 from turning into the Steve McGarrett Manpain Hour in s8 (and i'd like to add it was for Danny too), but actually it was already the case in s3 lmao, their apparences and storylines (not that there were much to begin with, always to solve a case most of the time) but they really are a breath of fresh air! - and not that i hate Steve's centered arcs either, but come on, between his mom, the spying, the secrets and his family, (Danny own things too damn, his daughter, his family, kidnapping) we barely see Chin and Kono; - i'm continuing shipping McKono as well just because lol
