I guess it’s hard for me to say this since I didn’t watch or search about it enough to know, but I know for other fandoms that sometimes people don’t see as toxic or rape (or attempts) things that obviously are? For example karamel on supergirl or chair on gossip girl are considered cute and all that shit and situations such as mon el degrading kara or chuck trading blair’s body for an hotel as seen as ‘issues every relationship has cause relationships aren’t perfect’ when no, the relationship is abusive, and while the person can change, and does change, or they might have cute moments it doesn’t make their relationship less toxic.

But idk about delena, I’ve heard two differents sides of the story, a delena shipper even once told me that yeah damon raped a girl but it wasn’t elena so it was ok to ship delena.
