I know #FearlessYogis2015 ended a week ago, but I wanted to take the time to say mahalo to the hosts (fearlessyogini, yogarian, bexmaddy, healthyhappymotivation, and yogawithkarel) and reflect a little bit.
1. Focusing on certain poses and taking pictures was an eye-opening process. My practice is almost entirely at home and without mirrors, so this was the first glimpse of my body in many of these postures. It also caused me to confront some body negativity I've been carrying for a while. Some days were better than others, but even the bad days brought gentle reminders of self love, self care, and focus.
2. I noticed that participating in the challenge made my home practice more playful. Instead of following videos like I usually do, I found myself just moving in ways that feel good and slowing down in spaces where my body needed it. It reminded me of when I was a kid and made up gymnastics routines to the Moody Blues albums my dad kept in the in-law addition to our house.
3. In January, my aerial studio offered 30% off class packages, so I was able to afford an unlimited pass. Combined with this challenge, I began a regular workout routine for the first time in 10-15 years... and it has been so SO good for my mental and physical health. I've been more relaxed, happier, drinking less. I've also noticed that I'm quite competitive with myself, which may or may not be a good thing...
I look forward to continued growth and I am thankful for the experience: good days and bad.
