his chest heaves. he’s still out of breath, skin running hot with his forehead tucked under lock’s chin as he noses up for attention.
“that was--” he swallows. “good. it--“
felt good.
instead he falls quiet. the silence between them is a rare moment of lock swallowing his self-deprecation and calcifer fighting his vanity.
“lock--”
when the familiar raises his head again his eyes are wet. he swallows audibly and asks, “did i do well?“
quieter, and under his breath he pushes, “am i enough?“ running his fingers along the bruises he’d scattered. calcifer doesn’t say another word.
the sun sets, rises.
when he wakes up lock is gone.
