Over the past few months Feathers Wood ‘N’ String have had a lot of exciting things going on, though it may appear as though not much has happened since the release of One Line. In working on our new song, Wordsmithing, we have been trialling some new software, not to mention that Reg has had a role in a recorded song for the first time – you will get to hear his lovely keyboard sounds towards the end of the song when it is released!
Lloyd had the choice of getting a new amp or getting Positive Grid BIAS FX. After trialling the software, Lloyd was hooked and immediately purchased it. He says,”The tone is excellent, with crisp and clear crunch sounds that are perfect for Wordsmithing. It is a bit RAM hungry though, and seems to create new processes that do not release their RAM once you have finished editing and close the plugin. Being able to DI the guitar and tweak the amp tone post recording is also saving us lots of time. The MIDI automation was easy to get working and has been brilliant for bringing in and out different effects in the chain. Overall, highly recommended for home recording on a budget!”
Wordsmithing has also been a slower process to record and edit because we have once again had some visitors in our little flat. Lloyd’s sister Charmaine and Auntie Sandra arrived to visit in July and to our great delight both brought us some tea. Charmaine contributed an enormous quantity of Australian Daintree from our favourite tea shop the T Bar, which has since aided enormously in what has been a long process of editing, feedback, re-recording and adding to the new track. Big thanks to our lovely guests and a very special thank you for the ‘taste of Australia’ that the daintree tea has brought to our recording table.
Also in recent months Feathers, Wood ‘N’ String has developed a connection with Canberra radio host Corey Barnett who hosts what was previously known as ‘The Downunder Show’, and is now known as ‘Breakfast from Australia,’ a show full of Australian music that is aired in Canada on Hunters Bay Radio, and can also be found online and on 88.7FM. Originally airing at 4pm Saturdays Canadian time and thus being very early in the morning for Adelaide, the show has now moved to a morning slot in Canada, meaning that our Adelaide friends and family can listen between 8.30pm and 10.30pm and catch any of our tracks that are played! Corey found Feathers, Wood, ‘N’ String on Triple J Unearthed and has since played Not My Song, The White Sea and One Line, the latter being aired twice! We look forward to sending the completed Wordsmithing his way. It was a very special moment when One Line was played at the new time, and we were in contact with a number of family members who were listening with us and sending a stream of excited messages.
We have also been working with a new Samson CO1 condenser microphone and are looking forward to sharing the lovely clear vocals it produces.
Looking forward to sharing new adventures soon!
