A Simple Favor (2018)

Stephanie is a mommy vlogger who investigates the disappearance of her new best friend. A Simple Favor was filmed in Toronto.

Stephanie drives down Main Street Unionville towards her kid’s school.

After attending Ethnic Food Day at Elmcrest Public School she meets Emily, the mother of the kid her own kid recently befriended.

Emily takes Stephanie to her home at 7 Ashley Park Road and they get to know one another over martinis while their sons play.

After Emily goes missing, Sona, Stacy, and Darren watch Stephanie hang up missing persons fliers from the patio of Blacksmiths Bistro.

After the body is discovered, everyone attends Emily’s funeral at St. Peter’s Anglican Erindale and later Stephanie and Emily have a conversation over the gravestone.

Stephanie visits Sean’s office at University College at the University of Toronto and sees him and his T.A. flirting.

Stephanie runs a red light and nearly gets into an accident while driving through the intersection of Rodeo Drive & Venice Street with the kids.

She takes the painting of Emily and drives down Lake Shore Boulevard East.

Stephanie travels to Valley Halla Estate where she located Emily’s mother and learns what happened to her and her twin sister.

Emily is hiding out in the Ivy Motel when she sees Stephanie’s vlog detailing everything she has learned about Emily’s past so far.

Emily tells Stephanie the story of her past including a party on Marie Curtis Beach and saying goodbye to her twin at the Toronto Coach Terminal.

Emily resurfaces at the police station in Unionville’s Stiver House with a black eye and a story about her husband.

The press swarm Sean as he is escorted to his hearing at the Varley Art Gallery of Markham.

Feature Friday

Captain Marvel (2019)

A Kree soldier begins recovering memories of a life she never knew on the planet Earth and begins a journey to become Earth's mightiest hero. Filmed around Los Angeles and Shaver Lake.

Carol has a dream of a fiery crash that she can’t remember clearly that took place on the shore of Shaver Lake.

She wakes up Yon-Rogg and they spar in the defunct Eagle Rock Substation.

Their squad then heads to the planet Torfa represented by the Gillibrand Quarry where she is captured by the Skrull.

The Skrull use a mind probe which shows Carol a past she cannot remember. Particularly she remembers being a pilot out of Hanger 1600 of Edwards Air Force Base.

She also sees glimpses of crashing her go-kart as a child at Jim Hall Racing Club and falling from a rope during basic training at Fulcrum Adventures in Culver City Park.

She also remembers spending time with her gal pal Maria at Tinhorn Flats Saloon & Grill which she later visits.

After escaping custody she crashes into the roof of Blockbuster Video. The Blockbuster and other surrounding stores were constructed in the abandoned Valley Plaza strip mall.

The Skrull come ashore on El Segundo Beach and adopt human forms.

After being attacked by one of the Skrull, Carol follows him to Douglas Station and leaps onto the back of the departing train.

Fury chases the train from the ground through the intersection of East Maple & North Nash and then around the corner onto Atwood Way.

He drives next to the train as it comes down to street level at East 1st & Clarence before disappearing into a tunnel.

Fury drives across a busy street at Wilshire Boulevard & Lebanon Street and then drives down West Temple towards Spring in hopes of catching them.

Carol exits the train in the 7th Street / Metro Center Station bus loses her Skrull target in the crowd.

She emerges from the Civic Center / Grand Park Station which is next to where Fury crashed his car after realizing he had a imposter passenger.

Carol uses a computer at the In & Out Market to look up Pancho’s Bar and then steals a motorcycle from some asshole.

She drives to Rosamond where the Zebra Club is the exterior of Pancho’s Bar.

Carol and Fury team up and drive down the Golden State Highway Old Road to Pyramid Dam where Fury uses his badge to enter the facility.

They drive down a long tunnel and wait for the chief of security for the base. The mile-long tunnel they drive down leads to the Eastwood Powerhouse located 1,000 feet beneath Shaver Lake.

They sneak down to the records level to learn about Carol’s past. These archives are a portion of the UCLA Film & Television Archive located in the Southern Regional Library Facility.

While escaping the facility, they pass back through the hanger at Edwards AFB and steal a Quinjet.

When faced with the Supreme Intelligence once again, Carol is given visions of herself falling down multiple times. The parking lot and baseball field are filmed at and around Culver City Park’s Bill Botts Field.

Yon-Rogg’s ship crashes in the desert off Powerline Road in Lucerne Valley and Carol unceremoniously kicks his ass before sending him back to the Kree.

Bumblebee (2018)

Charlie, a teenager mourning the loss of her father, fixes up a beat-up old VW Beetle she found in a junkyard a discovers a new friend on the run from an intergalactic war. Bumblebee was filmed in Los Angeles, Vallejo, San Rafael, Santa Cruz, & Lancaster.

Agent Burns is running a training mission with his soldiers in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park when it is interrupted by Bumblebee crashing down from the sky.

Charlie works her job at the Hot Dog on a Stick stand on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk where she accidentally spills some drinks on some guy from school.

After work she rides her bike down the Santa Cruz Wharf.

She hunts for parts in Hank’s shop located in a lot on South Seaside Avenue in Long Beach.

And then she returns home to her house at the end of Via Montebello in San Rafael. Charlie’s house was constructed in an empty lot at the end of the street for filming, but Memo’s house at 39 San Marino Drive was real.

After discovering her new VW Beatle is actually an alien robot she takes him to Rodeo Beach in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area for training.

Meanwhile, Section 7 sets up a roadblock in front of the two newly arrived Decepticons on 120th Street West near Lancaster.

Charlie goes walking with Bee through the Henry Cowell Redwoods and discovers a hidden message from Optimus Prime.

She takes Memo on a ride in Bumblebee along West Ridgecrest Road and then to Conzelman Road both in the Golden Gate Recreation Area.

They end up in the parking lot near Battery Mendell where Bee tries to rope Charlie into doing some cliff jumping.

On their way home after egging a house they pass a police officer who chases them for speeding. They are chased along Mt. Hollywood Drive in Griffith Park and through the Mt. Hollywood Drive Tunnel.

Shatter and Dropkick drive out of the secret Section 7 headquarters in Hoover Dam and the down Georgia Street west of Sonoma in Vallejo.

Charlie, Memo, and Bumblebee run into the military’s roadblock on Mt. Hollywood Drive on the north side of Griffith Park.

Bumblebee is locked up with the Decepticons in Building 51 at Long Beach Airport and when Charlie breaks him out they drive through the gate near the defunct Boeing C-17 Factory next door.

They end up at Dry Dock #1 at the old Mare Island Naval Shipyard where they fight to stop the Decepticons from sending a signal giving away the location of planet Earth.

After defeating the bad guys, Charlie and Bumblebee head up to Battery Spencer to say goodbye and then Bee takes on a new form and drives off across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Blade Runner (1982)

Ridley Scott's seminal science fiction classic, a special officer Rick Deckard is tasked with hunting down a group of rogue genetically engineered slaves through a cyberpunk future Los Angeles.

Deckard is brought to meet his old boss at a police station inside Los Angeles Union Station and given the assignment to hunt down the replicants.

He and Gaff search Leon’s old hotel room in the Pan American Building for clues and Deckard finds some photos.

On his way back home, Deckard drives through the 2nd Street Tunnel.

His apartment is portrayed by the iconic Ennis House, with the interior set based off molds of the distinct tiling of the home.

Pris talks her way inside the home of J.F. Sebastian located in the then decrepit Bradbury Building. In the years since this beautiful building has been restored back to grandeur.

Feature Friday

Black Panther (2018)

T'Challa returns to his homeland to take up the mantle of king after his father's death but finds his nation in peril when an old foe returns and old secrets are revealed. Black Panther was filmed in Atlanta & Busan.

Many years ago, a group of kids play basketball in a parking lot at the corner of Auburn & Jackson.

Ulysses Klaue and Erik Killmonger steel a valuable Vibranium artifact from a British museum at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.

T’Challa visits his friend W’Kabi at Bouckaert Farms and later Killmonger brings the body of Ulysses Klaue.

Nakia, Okoye, and T’Challa travel to Busan to capture Ulysses Klaue, but their first location in the market was filmed between the warehouses at 675 Metropolitan Parkway Southwest in Atlanta.

The chase begins with Okoye and Nakia heading down Jagalchi-ro under a parking garage.

Shuri takes a shortcut through Jagalchi-ro 47beon-gil with T’Challa riding on the roof.

T’Challa chases the SUVs around the corner at Wachi-ro & Cheonghakseo-ro, through the intersection of Namhangsijang-gil & Yeongseon-daero, and then up onto Namhang Bridge digitally altered to look like the other bridge.

The chase continues across Diamond Bridge.

Okoye and Nakia follow another SUV across down down Jurye-ro to the intersection with Gaya-daero 306beon-gil.

T’Challa rides on the top of the car down the waterfront on Gwanganhaebyeon-ro (between 108 & 120).

Klaue manages to destroy T’Challa’s car at the corner of Seoksa-ro & Sajikbuk-ro but he escapes and rips the wheel off of Klaue’s car a block to the south.

Ulysses Klaue is taken to a CIA safe house for interrogation. The front of the building is Quality Furniture and Design in Atlanta and the rear alley is across the street behind the Mitchell Street Office.

Killmonger and Klaue have a falling out before escaping at Atlanta Air Salvage.

After Killmonger’s overthrow of T’Challa, Ross, Nakia, Shuri, and Romanda walk through Mahers Quarry up to Jabari Land.

The two sides battle in Bouckaert Farms in front of the mine entrance.

In the first credits scene, T’Challa addresses the United Nations in Atlanta City Hall and announces his plan to open Wakanda.

In the second credits scene, Bucky wakes up and talks with Shuri on the shore of Browns Lake.

Feature Friday

The Carmilla Movie (2017)

Five years after they saved the worlds, Laura and Carmilla are living in Toronto when Laura starts to get strange dreams and Carm starts getting a resurgence of her old vampire side.

Laura & Carmilla are living in a really nice apartment in Toronto at 1091 Queen Street East where Laura bakes a cake for Carmilla’s fifth rebirthday.

Carmilla enjoys the little things in life, walking down Queen Street East towards Winnifred and chomping on a pastry (and later, on a squirrel).

The gang meets up in Riverdale Park East to talk about Laura’s strange dreams and their connection to Carmilla’s revamping.

The gang arrives at the mansion in Austria and head inside. The exterior of the mansion is at the historic Glanmore National Historic Site in Belleville, 200km to the east of Toronto. For the scenes inside the front door, the small entryway of Glanmore was composited into the front hall of the location below.

The gang heads inside the definitely-not-haunted mansion and find themselves inside the Vincent Massey Mansion in downtown Toronto.

I still need to identify the path to the mansion.

Feature Friday

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Thor finds himself trapped on a strange world after Odin's death leads to the return of his long banished sister, the Goddess of Death, who plans to conquer the universe. This film was shot in Brisbane (and a little Atlanta).

After learning that his brother had stashed their father on Earth, Thor demands Loki bring him there only to find the building in the process of being demolished. This is an empty lot at the corner of Margaret & Albert where an old apartment building was torn down not to long before filming.

They are transported to the Norwegian coast where they find Odin dying. While most of this environment is digital, the field itself was shot somewhere near Pinewood Studios in Atlanta.

After Hela’s invasion of Asgard, Heimdall rescues a group of refugees fleeing through Tamborine National Forest south of Brisbane.

He leads the refugees up past the nearby Cedar Creek Falls into a sanctuary deep in the mountains.
