You Asked, We Answered: An Update for 3banana Notes

We receive a lot of great feedback from our community every day – from Twitter to email to UserVoice. We read, log and discuss every feature request that comes our way and thoroughly think about the impact each request would have on the productivity of our community as a whole. While there are a lot of features we are working on and still discussing, we have included the following goodies in our newest update:

A widget for a quick note, quick picture and a one press shortcut to your notes. Long press on your home screen (be sure there is space that is equivalent to 3 icons), choose Widgets then 3banana.

Global search integration. Press the magnifier glass on your phone or navigate to the Google search bar and type in a term to find the note you are looking for. You will have to go into Settings, then Search and add 3banana to the Searchable Items list. Now you can quickly search for a note without having to open 3banana.

Pinning a note to your home screen. From the main list view in 3banana, long press on a note you would like to have quick access to from your home screen and choose Pin to Home Screen. To delete the shortcut, long press on the icon and drag it to the trashcan.

New note shortcut. This is a great alternative to the widget. Long press on your home screen, press Shortcuts and choose 3banana. This will put a New Note icon on your home screen so you can quickly enter a note.

Improved syncing. We made some changes to how syncing is handled to clean up the few errors people were experiencing and improved the speed of syncing.

We also made the Pencil icon for editing a tad larger.

AK Notepad Now with Passcode Lock

A new update of AK Notepad has been uploaded to the Android Market! This update adds an often-requested feature: you can passcode-lock the app so that snooping friends won't read your private notes. The new feature can be found in the Settings.

If you set a passcode, AK will prompt for it each time you launch the app, as well as when you click on any of your homescreen-pinned notes.

Note that if you enable AK Notepad as a source in your phone's global Searchable Items, you're giving up some privacy. If your notes are sensitive and you use the passcode lock, we recommend disabling AK Notepad in Searchable Items. Live Folders also exposes some of your note info to casual users of your phone, so consider that carefully when using it.

3banana for Android Now with Reminders, Passcode Lock

A new update of 3banana Notes has been uploaded to the Android Market! This update includes:

Passcode lock setting

If you set a passcode, 3banana will prompt for it each time you launch the app, or when you click on any of your homescreen-pinned notes. Enable the passcode if you want to keep prying eyes out of your private notebook. You'll find the option in Settings.

Note: If you enable 3banana Notes as a source in your phone's global Searchable Items, you're giving up some privacy. If your notes are sensitive and you use the passcode lock, we recommend disabling 3banana in Searchable Items.

Reminders

You can set reminders on any of your notes, and the reminder will sync to snaptic.com along with the rest of your note data -- so your reminders will automatically work even if you sign out then in again, or use 3banana on a different Android device. Use the Menu key when viewing a note, or long-press on a note, to set, change, or remove a reminder. See Settings to configure the way you are alerted when reminders occur.

Some visual enhancements

The note list has been freshened up: A new font size option for editing notes and the 3banana widget has been reskinned to match modern Android theming.

The option to move the app to SD for Froyo (Android 2.2) users.

New syncing options

In Settings: you can manually enable or disable syncing, and you can elect to only sync over wi-fi (if, for example, you are roaming and want to avoid network data charges).

We’ve released a new Chrome extension!

You can install it in your Chrome browser here.

Simply highlight some text you want to capture, press the Catch button, and voila! It’s in your notes.

New! You Can Now Email Notes into Catch

Saving what's important to you just became a lot easier. Free your inbox from all those little emails you send to yourself and send an email to your Catch.com account. Simply send an email to [email protected] from the email address you registered with and we'll post that email as a note to your account. It's that easy! You can also add multiple emails to your account, here's how: How to Add Multiple Emails to Your Account 1. Sign into Catch.com and click on your username at the top right. 2. Press "Add another address". Type in your new email address and press "Add". Press "Done". 3. You will receive a confirmation email in your newly added email inbox. Open the email and click the confirmation link. And you're all set! Now you can keep everything that's important to you in one place. No more little reminders lost in your inbox, whew! Now Testing: Firefox Add-On for Catch (Beta)

We're currently testing two new browser extensions for Catch and we thought we'd give you early access so you can test with us. They're working great on our end but more people using the add-on, the faster we can improve it.

This blog post will show you how to install the Firefox add-on. The IE8 Accelerator directions will follow in a separate blog post.

Here's how to install the Firefox Add-On:

1. Open your Firefox browser and paste this link in the browser https://catch.com/download/firefox-extension

2. Firefox will prompt you to ask for permission to install our Firefox. Click "Allow".

3. When the button says "Install now", click it.

4. Restart Firefox.

5. Make sure you're logged into Catch.com first. After logging in, highlight text on a page, right click, and choose "Catch Note from Selection." Note: At the moment we're not supporting images.

6. And that's it!

Known issues:

If you're logged out and try to clip over 4,000 characters, you will get an error. Make sure you're logged in. We'll have this resolved shortly.

No image support. Workin' on it!

Now Testing: IE8 Accelerator Web Clipper for Catch

If you're an Internet Explorer 8 user, we've created a web clipper that makes it easy for you to highlight and capture text on webpages. We're currently still testing our the IE Accelerator add-on, but the more feedback and people using it, the faster we can call it an official release! If you'd like to try it out, this post will show you how to get started. How to install the Catch IE8 Accelerator add-on: 1. Open IE8 and paste this link into your address bar: https://catch.com/tools/ie_accelerator/install then click on "Add Catch Notes to the shortcut menu..." 2. When prompted, click "Add". 3. Make sure you're logged into Catch, highlight text on a webpage, click on the blue Accelerator icon, and choose "Add to Catch Notes". 4. And that's it! Your selection will be saved in your Catch account. Known issues:

If you choose to clip by clicking on Page, then Add a Catch Note, you will receive an error. We're looking into this.

Did You Know You Can Undo & Redo Edits on the Web?

Last week, we added a new feature on the web that allows you to undo, redo, and save while editing a note. In this blog post, we'll describe how this will come in handy and how you can use it. Editing a note: Auto-save, undo, and redo 1. This is a note I'm going to edit. The "undo" and "redo" options are grayed out because I haven't made changes yet. 2. I've now tagged "Smoothie" and I've noted my excitement in anticipation of making this smoothie. However, I've changed my mind about "SMOOTHIE!!!!" so I'm going to "undo" the change I made to the note. There's also now a grayed "saved" which means the note has been automatically saved. Periodically, "saved" will appear as "save now" so you can save changes in between our auto-saves. 3. I now pressed undo until I was satisfied with my note. If I change my mind again, I can simply press redo and see the changes without having to type it all over again. Note: Undos and redos are only preserved during each browser session. You cannot close the browser and edit the same note and undo or redo options you made earlier. Once the page is refreshed, or you start a new browser session, the undo and redos only apply to your current session.
