Dawn had made it the first twenty-one years of her life never having to spend time in Hospital. Sure, she’d ended up being seen by Pomfrey for broken limbs following particularly gruelling matches. But never this. She didn’t know what to do with herself. She was alone, with only one copy of Witch Weekly to keep her company. She just felt so heavy, like the world was still wanting to crush her, even when she apparently had a solution to her problems.
She was nervous to see anyone, and with the gentle knock on the door she almost hoped it was another healer coming to check on her. But no, it was Pandora. Mustering the best smile she could offer her friend, she greeted, “Well, if it isn’t my favourite birthday girl.”

Pandora leaned against the diner’s wall, letting the cool sea air wash over her. She had to at least appear like she wasn’t outrageously drunk. Out of the corner of her eye she caught sight of a familiar face, and though she was in no state to carry on a proper conversation, she still summoned up the energy to say, “We have got to stop meeting like this.”
