To say that Leonora had been "in hiding" might be too nice a way to describe the last couple months of her life. The ease she once had to hide behind her mask had been failing too often, and someone like her couldn't afford such slips. She had been more active on duty than ever, now assuming a slightly more prominent role in the Death Eaters, but anywhere else she was just barely present. Hadn't seen people in a while either, going out of their way to avoid them. Even the Sunday visits with her mom had significantly thinned out.

Which was why now, about to face Asher again, she felt a rare anxiety in her chest. He was the one person who truly knew her and who could often see right through Leo's facade. This wasn't something she usually had to worry about, not in the slightest, yet there she was fidgeting with her hands as she waited for one of her oldest friends to arrive.

It shouldn't be this hard. It couldn't be this hard. Leo closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and waited.
