The vast majority of people go to Siem Reap for the temples. Angkor Wat is the most famous but it’s just one of over a thousand in Angkor Archaeological Park. The park covers an area of over 400 sq km and contains the remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire. Built between the 9th and 15th centuries, they’re collectively a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. November till April is the dry season in Siem Reap. It’s the coolest and driest time of the year but it’s also the busiest. Expect heavy crowds and hotel prices to be at their highest during this time... 😉 #TravelInfo #TravelTips . #Throwback #February2016 #Travel #Vacation #Trip #Wanderlust #GoExplore #WonderfulPlaces #InstaTravel #Landscape #LandscapeArchitecture #Architecture #Ruins #Temple #AncientCity #Icon #Monument #UNESCOWorldHeritage #UNESCO #oDTravel #Bayon #AngkorWat #SiemReap #Cambodia #Kemboja #SouthEastAsia #Asia (at Bayon Temple ប្រាសាទបាយ័ន) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaunZ5uBjo7/?utm_medium=tumblr

Angkor Wat is an ancient city in Cambodia that was the center of the Khmer empire that once ruled most of Southeast Asia. This civilization went extinct, but not before building amazing temples and buildings that were reclaimed by the jungle for hundreds of years. Though this place is always packed with tourists, the area and ruins are still breathtaking to see. The Angkor Archaeological Park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. New ruins are discovered frequently. In 2007, a team of archaeologists realized that Angkor, spread over at least 390 square miles, was the largest preindustrial city in the world at one time. How you enjoy Angkor is up to you. The main site, the easiest to access, is a bit of a tourist wonderland... 😉 #TravelInfo #TravelTips #Throwback #February2016 #Travel #Vacation #Trip #Wanderlust #GoExplore #WonderfulPlaces #InstaTravel #Landscape #LandscapeArchitecture #Architecture #Ruins #Temple #AncientCity #Icon #Monument #UNESCOWorldHeritage #UNESCO #Bayon #AngkorWat #SiemReap #Cambodia #Kemboja #SouthEastAsia #Asia (at Bayon Temple ប្រាសាទបាយ័ន) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-gwHQbHQYz/?igshid=16zxf73rrmda1
