It's been a year since my father had his stroke.
A year ago today, I was on a plane to [hometown].
I confessed this to a friend. He dropped everything and came over to make sure I was okay.
I absolutely started crying.

"Somethings on your mind, my friend," Racter whispered, as he ran his hand through Capricious' hair.
She struggled to hold her tears back, while clinging onto him tightly. "I... I'm sorry," she replied, even though her voice cracked. "I don't want to keep you from your work but... I felt incredibly lonely... and... scared."
The rigger escorted her to her chair next to his table where Koschei stay hidden. He then pulled back his hand to pluck his box of cigarettes, and tapped a stick out to hold it between his teeth. Capricious watched as Racter reached for butane torch on the table to light it up. "Then let's talk, my friend," he said, blowing out puffs of smoke.
Capricious chuckled briefly from how smooth he was, before sniffing. "I had a nightmare... that I lost everyone in some way... and I fought hard to bring them back to me... but you were the hardest one..." She sighed. "Its like... even though I cared about you just as much as everyone else, you weren't easy to reach, so I had to push myself even harder to save you. I don't know if it's because you were avoiding me, or maybe my subconscious telling me that I'm not worthy, but I still went after you, and Koschei."
She looked down at the drone as he sat quietly with his limbs tucked underneath him. All of his glaring red sensors were fixed directly on her, and only her.
Racter hummed while sucking on the cigarette, then blew it out from the corner of his mouth. "What a curious dream... but one that you shouldn't worry much, my friend."
Capricious looked back to him with a raised brow, until he placed his free hand on her head. "Despite what you may think," he continues, "I have no plans to leave this boat. Even if you did not agree with me, I had made this engine room my home and my shop - a place that gives me freedom to do as I please, regardless of what others think."
The corners of Capricious curled as she shook his hand off of her hand. "Well, it's not my place to force you out... but I can't make you stay either. I just hate the idea of you leaving at all."
Racter snickered while taking his seat beside her. "Honestly speaking, I also dislike the thought of you leaving myself, but I have no control over you, my friend. You have been a reliable ally and a trustworthy friend. It would be a shame to lose you."
"Because I'm also your soundboard, Racter!" Capricious laughed. "I cant imagine you talking to anyone else, except Gaichu, about your plans and ideas. Maybe Koschei, but as far as I am aware, he can't talk!"
Racter chuckled as he took in another breath of smoke.
