A bar that is sentient? Oh my...
This a review of all 3 books so far in this series:
There is also a cookbook which I have not looked at.
This is about a pocket universe that is also sentient and grows as energy is poured into it from those who visit. The more energetic they are – rowdy, noisy, dancing, happy etc – the bigger it gets and new things appear.
The visitors come through portals from other universes and are many and varied races and cultures. The universe /bar is clever in that there is an automatic translation scheme so you speak and understand everyone regardless of their language.
There are permanent inhabitants also who come through the chaos fog that surrounds the universe which is currently configured as a bar with some of the necessary suppliers eg a brewery. Some of the supplies though come through a portal, and there is one, of course, through in the Federal Witch’s garden as this is a spin-off book from that series.
I really liked this concept and enjoyed learning how the universe operated in book 1. Book 2 went over some of the same concepts from the views of different inhabitants and thus lost some of the edge of the new. It provided the reader with the backgrounds which was useful but..
Book 3 was far too short, but I enjoyed the Clothier and how her sentient shop and house and tools worked. Good tip on the pin cushion!
