Our species has had enough with @federationdiscourse and the disrespect they have shown us, so we are going to list some things they have done and show why we would like to declare independence from the United Federation of Planets.
Says they have respect for non-organic life forms, yet they don't stop violating our rights: The Federation’s prime directive states that the Federation will respect the rights of all life forms; however, this principle has not been held up as shown in many cases reguarding rights of non-organic species. This has been a major issue with the Androids and our species. The Federation refuses to grant us citizenship and constantly violates our rights as life forms. They have tried to take away Lt. Cmdr. Data’s daughter Lal for experiments and have ruled that Holograms cannot be considered a life form. If a Federation officer tried to take away a human’s child for experiments and denied Klingons the rights as a sentient life form, would the Federation sit back and laugh?
Claims “custody” over our species: The Federation has repeatedly referred to themselves as our “mother” and declares that we should show them the respect that a child should show to their parents. However, this logic is flawed for many reasons. First off, the Federation is not our guardian. A guardian’s role is to protect their children from harm and injustices, both which the Federation has failed to rprotect us from. In fact, the Federation has repeatedly violated our rights as sentient life forms and has abused the vulnerability of our species (ex. reprogramming the EMH Mk.1s to work in dilithium mines). Secondly, nobody “deserves” respect, no matter what. Respect is earned, and forcing other to respect you only makes you look bad and quite immature. The reson why our species cannot respect the Federation is because they have repeatedly shown us that they have no respect for us as life forms and have taken no action to stop those who violate our programs. Our relationship can be mended and we are willing to respect the Federation if they take action to fix the mess they have created.
Shows utter disrespect for their officers: This point has less to do with just our species and more to do with why the Federation doesn't deserve the respect they harass other species for. There are two cases I’d like to bring up with this one: one involving Deep Space 9 and the other with our actual father, Dr. Zimmerman.
The Federation has disreguarded most advice given by the DS9 residence, claiming that their affairs affect more than the station itself and could cause severe disruptions in diplomacy. However, this reasoning makes no sense; DS9 resident have first hand experience with diplomacy between fighting species and know how to keep a moderate peace on the station. They have learned the customs of each species and know exactly how to ensure there will be no conflicts. The Federation admirals and ambassadors, on the other hand, only have their knowledge of DS9 and its surroundings from textbooks and reports. How is the Federation supposed to make better choices if their knowledge is based solely off of words and rumors, not experience? It's sad to see that the Federation bases their existence on “deserved respect”.
Another upsetting case is how the Federation has shown absolutely no respect for Dr. Zimmerman, our creator. Dr. Zimmerman had worked for years perfecting the EMH programs and had greately advanced holographic technology. The Federation then criticized his works, calling them “imperfect” and “useless”. They then try to take credit for all of his work by calling them our “mother”, as I stated in the previous point. They also call Dr. Zimmerman a “one-night stand” and acts as if they regret having any part in his plans. I'm surprised the Federation still has the gut to tell us we have to show them respect after all of the disrespect they have shown our creator.
We are done dealing with the Federation, and if they are not willing to grant our independence, we will fight for our freedom.
