It's been almost 300 days since I switched to Linux and made it my main operating system.

I wanted to share my ricing evolution since day one to this very day. It's been a fun journey.

Day 1 + First week:

Barely knew what was doing. Messed around with a few files and scripts. Learned a bunch. I really liked the Nord color scheme.

Gruvbox Era:

Once I understood how things work, I wanted to try something different, so I changed the color scheme again. Changed a few apps and applets as well.

Darkademia colorscheme:

Customization with presets wasn't enough, so I made my own color scheme. The idea was to make it match with my phone's theme. I call it Darkademia. I also learned how to actually customize the status bar during this time.

My current setup:

I ended up changing the colors because I had a hard time reading code with the previous one, but I still call this one Darkademia anyway. It's the same theme and idea, and I'm actually really happy with how it looks now. Pretty neat and simple. Also switched from KDE Plasma to Niri + Noctalia Shell.

i have finally made the switch from windows to fedora linux (yippie ! yay !)

i have yet to rice my desktop because… i have shiny object syndrome and want to switch to cachyOS. i'm leaning toward it because:

♧ it is an arch derivative and there's more stuff in their library (aur)

♧ i like their manual

♧ beginner friendly but lets you learn more about linux without driving you insane

♧ i heard it is fast af

♧ seems way more customizable

even though davinci just doesn't work i erased the wrong drive will not return to windows because i am very determined to get the outcome i went and luckily i still have my D drive i can install nobara there and keep garuda as my main distro after all i am the one in control XD (or i might return)

davinci failed

after all my trying my C drive got erased all for davinci to work only for the keys to do nothing i have to manually play and move the timeline and i can't press space to play (maybe because i am using a fedora program on arch that's my guess) all this work just for davinci to be unable (annoyed expression) luckily kdenlive is just as good

I spent far too long trying to fix my development system. The logs revealed nothing. There was no crash, or any clear error logged, either in the system logs, or in any specific log files that I could find. The system would attempt to start Xorg, only for some unlogged process to exit with an error, and everything else to decide, "Sounds like a good idea to me!", and do the same, causing it to drop me right back to the greeter.

The only thing I know is that the problem existed somewhere in my home directory. I only discovered that using brute force, by reinstalling while preserving my home directory, which failed, then trying a clean install, which finally resolved the issue. If I start re-adding the files from my old directory, and it breaks, I'll finally have some hint of where the issue is, but I can't trace silence to its source.

This is really inconvenient, as it's going to delay things while I get the system back to where I can start using it again.

My development system ate shit after upgrading from Fedora 43 to Fedora 44.

It refuses to elaborate what exactly the issue is, but it won't proceed past the greeter. While I could probably sit here and dig deep into the logs to find why it's not starting i3 for my user, I really don't want to deal with this crap.

I'll try for a little while longer, to see if I can find some trace of the actual problem. But, if I can't find some substantial lead of why it's not working, I'm reinstalling. I'm currently backing up the home directory.

This is annoying.

My friends pc like straight up refused to accept Windows.

I removed Windows 11 thinking I'd be able to just reinstall it for her. Nope! Despite multiple install attempts, using several different flash drives, each with different versions of windows, none of the drives we installed Windows on would show as bootable in BIOS.

Eventually when it got late I just gave up and tried installing Fedora Linux and that worked on the first attempt. I'm wondering if the motherboard bios is messed up.

As funny as it is to end up installing Linux I'd rather give her something she knows how to work for her job than just force a massive change and give her a bad first Linux experience.
