Oh my GOODNESS.

Didi has had a couple escaped roaches living in his viv for the longest time. Red goblins take a notoriously long time to reach adulthood, but this little lady has survived and matured over many many months now. I've wondered how she's survived so long, and now it all makes sense.

Now for the dubia! I started this colony a few weeks ago and moved them into their permanent home a couple days back. They have a lot of room to roam now, and tons of leaves to crinkle around. It's ridiculous, I open the closet and they RUSTLE and crinkle the leaves like crazy, its a sea of ever-shifting groundcover.

Weird noises aside they seem to enjoy the new digs. It's completely bioactive with springtails and buffalo beetles for cleaners, and lots of modified ABG mix, leaf litter, nut pods, and cork bark.

Compared to the goblins I like these okay. They're very pretty as adults and their casual pace is easy to work with. They're difficult to feed to the Ts since nymphs don't move much and burrow quickly, but they're leagues better than crickets and much more efficient than goblins, so I'll get used to it. Over time they'll probably grow on me but for now I still prefer my ugly gorblin kids.

Here's something I haven't shown in some time. The red goblin colony has been doing great, after like five enclosure renovations since last fall we've been stable and healthy for over several months now. These are some A+ roaches, they have a lot of personality and charm for such funky little feeders. They may be gecko/invert food but they're fun to keep and this colony will be around for a long time yet.

Roach PSA

This is so important and everyone needs to be made aware of this new groundbreaking discovery. Little kenyan roaches are incredibly doofy and just plain adorable. Lil chubby friends, in three amazing colors: Black, Chestnut, and Gold. Such smol and perfect beans, they are one of the most innocent and pure insects I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and I love them. 11/10 good boi points. Highly recommended.

Looks like these guys are due for a little upgrade, too. I'm going out tonight to pick up some bits and bobs for the red goblins redo so I'll get a new 2.5 qt for them too. It'll be harder to catch them, I think, but hopefully the greater volume and fresh springtails will keep their enclosure healthier.

Also found a dozen red goblin nymphs tearing pieces off of a mutilated adult corpse. Or at least, I think it was an adult. I've had them for some time so maybe I'm experiencing some die off, this is the fourth one I've seen in the past few weeks, now. If not, at least they're getting a total overhaul so if it's an enclosure issue it'll be fixed in the coming week.

I know I'm positive and smiley here but jeez, I hope people realize that inverts in particular are not always sprinkles and sunshine to keep. I knew that when I first got into all of this and I have shed many tears over it. It gets easier, but it doesn't make all the pain go away. I still cry over these dumb cockroaches. Even though they're supposed to be feeders I love them and it's upsetting when this happens, but. It happens. I'll do what I can to fix it. I hope it's just a one time thing, if not, I hope the changes solve it.

Hottentotta caboverdensis, one with a fresh molt, and the other eating another Symploce hospes feeder roach, more mature sub adult, or probably an adult female. The roach went bananas when I was hydrating the enclosure, and got a little wet in the second photograph. Which is why it is cleaning off its pedipalps before it eats. Who said scorpions dont have table manners?
