Feel Tight [O'Leaver's, Omaha: 30 January]
Omaha psych musician and visual mastermind Jason Meyer has a new project called Feel Tight. Perhaps you've heard of them, likely something about being Sabbath-y and wearing cloaks. Indeed, their set last night was littered with choice covers of Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd tunes, but saying Feel Tight play Sabbath covers is a bit like saying Airbus makes planes. Feel Tight sludge and bludgeon their way through "War Pigs" with all the subtlety of a laser show (which they had) or a gong (which they also had) or a laser mallet for that gong (you get the picture). Tearing through this type of music is easy, though; making it feel new is not. The crucial element here is the excellent arrangements, particularly when the bass and guitar were locked in melodically like the triple spiral that graced their cloaks and monitors. The number of pleasure centers triggered by their music is high. Do you like drastically effected 12-string? Check. What about bass wah? Mmhmm. Vocoders? Yup. You owe it yourself to see this group in person and be immersed in their Gothic psych sounds and visions.
