Yet another blog about chocolate cake: I'm not one to comfort eat. Have never had that habit . Had a most exquisite morning with mum. We cooked, chatted , laughed and even cried . Then did a photoshoot for tomorrow's post. Prepped hot cardamom tea and enjoyed the spoils of the photoshoot. The sun was out today and was most comforting . Relished in that warm buzz even after my walk on the treadmill. Still couldn't shake that flat feeling . As women we have to understand that there are moments , when emotional lows are inexplicable . We seek comfort in a feel good movie, an inspiring book, cooking, or even special coffee moments shared with a friend. My special moment shared with mum was most comforting , In more ways than one. In pursuit of my fave coffee ; I am drawn to my cafe of first choice. Sitting prettily under the furthest cloche , is a triple layered dark chocolate caramel cake. It almost whispers , the promise of ultimate indulgence , into my ear. I feel no guilt in ordering a slice , to accompany my short cappuccino. It arrives unceremoniously; yet begs to be devoured instantly. It is dense and extremely chocolatey with a gooey sticky icing in the middle . I luxuriate in the chocolate shavings that fall off the topping , together with mouthfuls of intense chocolate cake. I leave the ganache topping for last... And it is the best part . You are first assaulted by a salty caramel layer ; and then... a chocolate hit of smooth , silky , creamy , and gooey all at once . A melt in the mouth sensation , followed by a cohesive clinging of the chocolate to your palate. One that slowly but surely melts and a taste explosion , that you are forced to savour and enjoy . The ganache mimics a delicate French truffle , in every way. This awesome taste expedition, is intermittently interrupted with a wash down of a steaming cuppa coffee . My chocolate and coffee hit ; in mum's amazing company , made for a special moment and an antidote to my flat feeling. I am on a chocolate high all afternoon.
