@feelsgood-inc // the thing for Jeremy :3
Early afternoon, Vincent had just sat down to have lunch when the call came in; two males - adult & child involved in a car accident. Possibly life-threatening, fine weather conditions, road blocked so hopefully no further danger for patients or EMT at arrival. The worst cases were when children were involved - he dreaded those more than anything. Food put aside, he hopped back into the car & nodded to his colleague to take off. They weren’t all that far, it was a ten minute drive - tops. Upon arrival, the first thing Vincent had to do was assess the scene & ensure he knew what he was dealing with, no imminent danger & no trespassers on the scene.
That done, he made his way over - his partner got the car ready & Vincent met the patient(s). He found a man & a child as promised. Father and son? Likely. On a knee, he was quick to check out the boy as the father seemed to be mostly okay, other than utterly shook and maybe a little bruised. The boy however seemed in worse condition. Head turned to said maybe-father, “Everything’s going to be okay, I need you to stay calm.” A bruise on his forehead, bleeding - he’d take care of that later. The boy was breathing at least, if unconscious, but he had to stabilize his neck just in case.
A little under ten minutes later they were in the back of the ambulance, Vincent had one hand on he boy’s chest & one on the father’s thigh. “What’s his name? What’s yours?” He’d been in a hurry.”
