I’m With Her
American Studies students are all aware of the election happening right now in the United States. Now that Donald Trump is more and more likely to be the Republican nominee, the eyes are on the Democratic side; Senator Bernie Sanders and Secretary Hillary Clinton. In the American Studies community, there are a lot of Bernie supporters, which has slunk down a little lately because the path for Sanders to the nomination is almost impossible. And some in the American Studies are Hillary supporters, although they might be less vocal. As the title suggests, I am a Hillary supporter. My opinion is that there has never been a more qualified and honest person running for the presidency than Hillary Clinton. Did I just say honest? Yes! PolitiFact (source) has proved that Hillary Clinton has been the most honest of all her 2016 opponents, this includes Senator Sanders, yet she has been called out as one of the biggest liars of the century. It is almost as if you cannot trust Fox News. “You just like her because she is a woman” is a comeback I have heard many times over the past months after I told people I am a proud Hillary supporter. I tell them that Hillary being a woman is just the icing on the cake. Is a female leader of the free world important? Absolutely but not half as important as having a responsible and capable president sitting in the oval office, no matter if they pee sitting down or standing up. Do I like Bernie Sanders? Yes, this may come as a shock, but you can support one without badmouthing the other. Especially the beginning of Senator Sander's campaign, he was a fresh voice in the Democratic Party, and it made the party better for it.
On social media there are calls for Hillary to drop out and for Bernie to drop out. Both these calls are ridiculous and undemocratic; the American people should be able to vote for whomever they want until the convention. Another issue is superdelegates; Senator Sanders complained that superdelegates are not democratic, and he has a solid point here but even if Bernie Sanders would get the superdelegates for every state that he won, he would still be trailing Hillary. Besides that, Hillary Clinton has a lead over Bernie Sanders of more than 3 million raw votes.
If Senator Sanders feels that it is ‘his way or the highway’ and he thinks that him getting the nomination is more important than electing a Democrat than Sanders would be breaking one of his highly regarded promises; listening to the American people. So with voting, they made it clear, they are not #FeelingTheBern, they are #WithHer. One could argue that Bernie should take a page out of Hillary’s book and not contest and simply endorse his opponent, just as Hillary did in the 2008 election with Barack Obama. At this point, the only thing Bernie Sanders could achieve with not endorsing is splitting the Democratic party and giving the presidency to Donald Trump.
On to the big condescending, sexist bigot in the room: Donald Trump. How did America go from Lincoln, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Clinton, Obama to possibly Donald Trump? This is on so many levels wrong that I will not list all of them here but focus on his chance of actually winning the presidency. Donald Trump has 10.6 million raw votes; Hillary Clinton has 12.4 million raw votes. The website 270ToWin projects every election who is going to win, this based on available polls and data. The data shows that Hillary Clinton has a huge advantage over Donald Trump and would be more likely to win the general election and become the 45th President of the United States of America. It is still a long way to November 2016, and this election has proven that anything can happen, but my Goldman Sachs money is still on Hillary Clinton.

Some fishy stuff is happening on the campaign trail for both parties. Or is there? No… I will tell you why no body is cheating and why you should not be surprised by the race for delegates. Let’s start with the Democrats because, as always, it is over. Sanders has had multiple opportunities to turn the tables on Hillary. He could have won Iowa or any of the states from the second Super Tuesday…

After Hillary Clinton’s win in New York, it is ‘bye bye Bernie’ #BernedOut

Bernie Sanders: 752,739 votes (42.1%) 104 delegates

I have been active on Tumblr for a long time but have never received so much hate mail since I supported Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders
It is pretty pathetic to get so upset...
I hope that Hillary Clinton is the next president. When I watch the Republicans, I don’t know how they ever – I’ve never seen such a group. Now they’re yelling at each other about their wives?
