FEFE DOBSON Bye Bye Boyfriend (2003)
y2k pop rock princess
happy february who wants to start the month of love with a lil angst?! MEEEE!!! (btw, in case anyone tries to say something, sonic wasn’t trying to be mean and disregard amy— he just needed to do his job … and at some point, i think, maybe amy just accepts it even though it’s hard … but she’ll never be alone 🥺💗) ((also im planning a huge animatic this month for v day and this took 40 frames so … my goodness …!)

As you know, February is Black History Month so this rotation focuses on Black musicians :3
As usual : Song titles link to individual mp3 file download
All 5 songs can also be downloaded together in a zip file from the link at the bottom
Alright, let's see what's in this month's box !
Gloria Jones - Tainted Love '76
Ok, we already established I like covers, and while this isn't the original original, it's an updated version Jones did about 10 years after the original. Though you probably know this from the Soft Cell version :)
This version of Tainted Love was on the album Vixen, released in 1976

Fefe Dobson - Take me Away
This is another album a listened to a lot as a teen, like people were all crazy about Avril Lavigne and I was like but what about Fefe Dobson ?!
Take me Away was on Dobson's eponymous album, from 2003
Karim Ouellet - Karim et le Loup
I do think we lost a big piece of québécois music when Karim Ouellet died ngl. In this song specifically, though, i like the juxtaposition of a merry beat with the lyrics that are rather sad, like having to keep up the appearances despite everything being shit (Also look up his sister Sarahmée, she's making music too !)
Karim et le Loup was on the album Trente, released in 2016
(this was filmed in my city lol as he was living here as well !)
Corneille - Fantasy (Earth Wind & Fire cover)
Ah, here I am with my covers ehehe. Admittedly, i just now listened to this album for the first time. So this isn't something I already knew, though Corneille was already in my choices for this rotation (probably with Parce qu'on Vient de Loin) ! The cover album caught my eye, of course ! I chose this one cause I know this is gonna get stuck in my head for the rest of the month haha
Corneille's rendition of Fantasy is from Love & Soul from 2018 (and has other decent covers, its pretty easy listening too, mostly enjoyed listening to this !)
Lil Nas X - Dead Right Now
You know, I was browsing my files to make this rotation, and when I came accross Lil Nas X, it made me realize i hadn't heard from him in a while. New album later this year apparently :3 Montero (Call Me By Your Name) is what made me buy this album, at the time. It did take me out of my comfort zone, but it was worth it ! That's still an excellent album ! Probably one of the most important album of the 2020's. Dead Right Now is one of my favourite on there.
Dead Right Now is from Montero, released in 2021
