Citra casually mirroring my testing hand is something that can be so personal
Can someone who is more familiar with cat behavior give me some advice?
I have two cats, one very large 9yo male named Mobii, and one very small 1yo female cat named Tempest. We believe Tempest’s growth may have been stunted due to malnourishment as a kitten, whereas Mobii has been especially large ever since he was a kitten (the first time we took him to the vet when we got him at ~5 weeks old the vet took one look at him and said he was going to grow up to be giant and she was right). That is to say, they have a very big size difference, with the newer cat being significantly smaller than our first cat.
They’ve more or less gotten over most of the growing pains of introducing a new cat to a household. Mobii was initially very aggressive and territorial, but he’s mellowed out significantly. Tempest for her part deserved some of it, she originally really liked antagonizing him, stalking him around corners and sometimes running over and trying to grab his tail.
More recently, I’ve noticed a different trend in their behavior. Mobii will chase her and try to bop her with his paw multiple times, and she will run and sometimes hide. Mobii’s not growling or hissing, his body language seems like he’s playing (tail raised, ears forward), but her body language reads as submissive and scared (tail lowered, keeping her body low to the ground). Often when she sees him approaching, she will lay down as he approaches, which I’m not certain what that means, I’m not sure if I’m misreading Mobii’s body language and he is being aggressive, or if him being so much bigger intimidates her even if he’s just playing.
On the other hand, despite her body language, Tempest does still try to chase him back sometimes.
On the other-other hand, Mobii likes to try to scratch the carpet after chasing her, which strikes me as him being territorial. But if that’s the case why is his body language so calm/relaxed?
The Fascination with Catnip
Catnip is a natural herb that many cats love. When exposed to it, cats may exhibit playful, hyperactive, or relaxed behaviors. Not all cats are affected by catnip, but for those who are, it can provide a great way to encourage exercise and play.
Downsides of shelter kitties. My boy either gets overstimulated fast or has play aggression issues. Leads to bitey time and me having to use a blanket to protect my arm. Will be much easier to deal with once have a house and therefore room for another cat to help with his energy at freaking midnight. Whatever his owners who had him for his year did, he definitely has some behavioral issues that make it seem like he was a solo and poorly socialized cat. His bit inhibition has gotten better while ive had him, but its not perfect. Food aggression was an issue at my moms with her cat but I’m not sure that can be worked on now until he’d back in a multi cat household. He also suckles which is more likely to happen when a cat is taken from their mom too young but also some cats are just like that anyway. I mostly don’t trust whoever had him before to have cared about proper age to take a kitten. The shelter got him at a year old, with enough matts they shaved a few parts of him, intact, umbilical hernia, amd a nasty greasy overactive gland on his tail. Luckily that gland was sex related so its calmed down now that he’s fixed.
As you can see he’s had quite the glow up since his shelter days. Gorgeous fluffy idiot son who might be more cuddly if i wasnt so tossy and turny in bed. Luckily his Basepaws test came back with all good health results. But man you never really know what you’re getting into with shelter babies. I love him, hes just Trouble sometimes.
Yesterday morning Ashie decided to show off her squeaky, and soft meows 🐱💖
my babies are such models.
A cute thing cats do: You hold out a thing for them to examine and they sniff it intensely getting closer and closer and then *boop* and they jerk back from this SHOCKING EXPERIENCE and this repeats like 3-5 times.
