          ❛   hm --- ?   ❜     his voice comes out a confused hum, believing he misheard at first.   after a beat of silence,  &  he’s able to confirm he didn’t,  a smile spreads across his cheeks.   then,  his lips part,  &  out spills a giggly wheeze.   staring down at his own hands,  then back up towards hinata,  then back to his hands.   another pause --- before he giggles again.   what an absurd, interesting question.   what an absurd, interesting person.   then again,  the same could be said for him,  couldn’t it ?

               ❛     your heartbeat --- .     ❜     he breathed,  fingertips gently pressed against the other’s chest.   it was loud.   human hearts always were.   loud,  annoying things.   your own personal ticking time bomb.   everyone had one,  everyone’s was bound to stop eventually.   sitting like this,  cross legged on his bed,  facing each other --- hajime’s heartbeat was the only sound in the room.   nagito’s was likely just as loud,  but he couldn’t hear it over his focus on the other.   fingers withdrew,  hand curling into a lose fist that he then held against his chest.   thump,  thump,  ba-thump.   thump,  thump,  ba-thump.   it was so obvious,  so prominent.   such an annoying thing,  the heart.   such a wonderful mess of pieces,  directing so much emotion with simple noise.   emotion that didn’t belong to it.   emotion he wasn’t supposed to feel.   eyes looked up at hajime,  trying to make sense of the annoying sound reverberating through his chest.     ❛     why is it so loud, hinata-kun ?   it’s not supposed to be this loud, is it ?     ❜

               his voice may be laced with confusion,  but the smile on his face tells another story.

               ❛     hinata - kun,  you don’t need to yell for me.     ❜     fingers cease their slow movement,  sliding over an array of items sitting in the diner’s kitchen.   he almost misses the calm days of nice food being here every morning,  waiting for all of them.   as annoying as the man was,  teruteru was a splendid cook chef.   more than worthy of his title,  more than worthy of his death.   komaeda turns,  facing the other as he props the base of his palms against the counter,  weight shifting to one foot.   a look of thought passes his face,  before he turns his eyes downwards to the floor.   there’s so much he could say.   there’s so much he wishes to.   lips part,  words slowly spilling from them.     ❛     i … don’t want to die,  without seeing all of you succeed,  you know.   i want to be useful.   i want to be your guiding light,  if you’ll let me.   i’ll do anything,  so please,  please,  let me help everyone while i still can.     ❜
